3rd Person Pov
"Stop pacing. It's annoying." "But-" A small hand clutched Y/n's. "Y/n.. Are they going to be Ok?"
She looked down into Rei's eyes. "Hopefully, Sweetie." The sound of a creaky door caught the three's attention.
A stern (which is scary) Hanji stood in the gap. She exhaustedly looked down to Rei and then back at the adults.
Y/n's eyes trailed to Levi. He sighed and grabbed Rei's hand, pulling her away. "Where are we going, Mr. Levi?" He quickly looked away, knowing he was weak to this child. "You wanted to show me how you pick locks remember? You promised."
The sound of him acting all sweet tugged at Y/n's heart. She wasn't used to that side of him.
Her eyes returned to Hanji. The bags under Hanji's eyes told a story. A story that Y/n was scared to find out.
The door opened slightly more as Hanji crossed her arms, turning back into it.
Taking a step into the room, Y/n felt heavy. Hanji turned her head slightly, but her eyes remained on the ground. "I'm sorry.. I tried my hardest. Done every thing I could but I.. I just-"
Y/n felt her heart breaking. "Did they.. I mean.. Are they.." Hanji looked over at the curtains separating the beds.
"This will be hard to hear..." "Hanji. Please." "...one of them didn't make it.. Your friend.. Mark....he didn't survive the attack.."
Shadows covered Y/n's eyes. Hanji turned to face her to try and ease the mood, but seeing the darkened expression in the eyes of her old friend, Hanji started to cry.
"All I've done.. This entire time.. Was goof off.. I ignored the warning signs. All of the bloodshed and wounds I've had to patch up.. Hell, I had to stitch your fucking leg yesterday!"
Y/n looked up at her, her facial expression not changing.
"And still.. If I would have screwed up that surgery.. Everyone would be devastated.. Erwin.. Levi.. Mike.. Me.. And we would have had to raise your little girl.. When I looked into that little girls eyes when I was going to deliver the bad news.. I started thinking.."
"Hanji-" "What if I fucked up?! What if.. What if I couldn't fix you?! What if..the bad news was to her.. And not you?"
Y/n gulped. "Hanji..." "God I couldn't forgive myself! Me being the cau-" "Hanji!" The mad scientist shut up instantly.
"Don't think about the what ifs. Think about how you managed to save me, and save one of my friends. That wasn't a "what if" moment. That was a "Hanji, you kicked ass" moment. You did a great job! Please don't blame yourself for a death that hasn't happened.."
"But your friend-" "Mark took a bullet to the shoulder above his heart. Even normal doctors with their hightech machines would struggle. You did good Hanji."
Hanji started bawling and Y/n wrapped her arms around her securely.
"Err.. Ye guys ok?" Both girls flinched at the new voice. Y/n smiled the biggest smile and ran over to the curtain. When she pulled it back, Jack was shirtless with bloody bandages covering his lower abdominal area.
Y/n cringed.
Hanji's Pov
I picked myself up off the floor and turned to my patient and best friend. Both who were alive... Both who were alive because of me. You did a great job.
He spoke softly. "Looks disgustin' doesn't it?" Y/n wrapped her arms carefully around Jack. He winced, but hugged back. "Jack, I'm so sorry. If I hadn't dragged you here-"
He chuckled lightly. "You just gave an emotional speech. Don't go downing yourself. I would be rotting in that house without you. Oh and what your name lass?"
He was talking to me now, and I blushed. "H-Hanji." Y/n's head snapped to face me. She smirked. Jack smiled. "Thanks for saving my life, Hanji."
I blushed even more and smiled like an idiot.
"You're welcome."
