You Come First

Chapter 1: The day I let go

"Sitting up at my sister's Wedding Rehearsal has me looking stupid. Looking around, I notice how everyone is gushing over her because she is giving a speech on how she and Roman will be married four weeks from now, and it will be the start of their wonderful life. Did I also mention that she is pregnant."

"In truth, the baby might not be Roman's because she has been sleeping with his best friend Tobias Macklemore for months now. I should know because I always see them coming out of her room fixing their clothes."

"Tonight I have to make a toast, but I do not know how to, probably because I am in love with my sister's fiancé. Now I know you think of me as a whore, but I can assure you I am not. In truth, we both were in love when we were young, but the funny thing is, we were too young to know what love was."

"Roman family is the richest in the world and when he was young, he had an accident that causes him to lose his sight. His family could not watch him because they were too busy maintaining their legacy, so they left him with my family. Just like his, my family did not pay too much attention to him because he was not what they wanted. My family only kept him because they were close with the Rossi's and they bank on something good coming out of it."

"I took care of Roman along with a few maids. When he was hungry, the maids and I would make him lunch. I was there when he would have a doctor's appointment or help him put on his clothes. I even teach him how to read even though he was five years older than me, I would always help with his school work."

"After I came home from school I would share how my day went with him and allow him to eat whatever sweets I bought at school. Do not get me started on Halloween because we would always have a theme that would cause us to dress alike."

"My sister and her friends would always bully him every time she would have them over. One time they left him in the cold attic as a prank. He was only in his boxers and singlet so when I found him, he was the color of the smurfs. I help nurture him back to health and that night he said to me that he loves me and some day he was going to marry me."

"But that was a promise he could not keep, because a year after that, a Surgeon claim to have found a way to fix him. The only problem was that he would lose some of his memory in the process. At first, Roman said he would never forget me, but after the surgery he did."

"That is when my family started to bank on Roman because he fall in love with my sister. Then they told everyone that my sister took good care of him causing him to fall in love with her more. I was angry so I caused a scene claiming that they lied and that I was the one to do all of what they say, Maddie, my sister did."

"No one believes me and called me jealous, they said I was only doing this because I was the black sheep of the family. You see my mother was a maid and my father who could not be faithful to his wife and keep it in his pants slept with my mother. I was born nine months later in the back of a Mercedes, hence where I got my name from."

"My sister Madison who is five years older than me, always got everything she wanted, that includes Roman. The boy who she bully is going to be the man she is going to spend the rest of her life with. And you want to know what is funny? He doesn't even remember the horrible thing Maddie did and said to him."

"Hearing someone call my name I snap out of my thoughts because it is my time to give the speech. Getting up I take a fork and hit the side of my glass for everyone's attention, in return everyone give me disgusting looks. That is due to the lies my family has told everyone about me."

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I want to congratulate the wonderful couple, my lovely sister Madison and her soon to be husband, Roman. When people take about marriage they forget to mention the key points that come with it such as honesty, faithfulness, happiness and amongst all love."

"I have seen all of this over the years between my sister and her fiancé. Hopefully and prayerfully, your child will grow up to know this too. Even though I am not fully welcome at the wedding because everyone thinks I am a danger to your happiness, I can assure you that I can't wait to see the power couple you two are going to become. So every raise your glass and give a toast to the soon to be Mr. and Mrs. Rossi, long live a life full of love."

"For the first time, everyone give me a round of applause and congratulate me on a speech well done. My father pulls me to the side to have a talk with me, so I follow him to his Office. Sitting down in the seat in front of his desk, I look at him and before he can speak, I ask him about the papers."

"I have already turned them in, the court has processed them and from now on you are no longer my daughter," he says. Then goes on to say, "But you are invited to your sister's Wedding since you made a wonderful speech tonight."

"I am going to pass, I tell my father looking him directly in the eye. I have sat on the sidelines and watch the only family I ever have known to take everything away from me. I am sorry Mr. Smith but I am not your daughter in the eyes of the law anymore, so, therefore, I am not obligated to obey the crap you tell me to do. With that, I get up and walk out of Office not sparing him a glance."

"As I make my way out of the building, in front of me is the man I am in love with but can't have. Listen, Roman, I say to him, are you really going to marry my sister knowing that I am in love with you? Are you really not going to find a way to gain your memories back to know that I am and will always be the one who truly cares."

"Roman looks at me with hatred in his eyes and say, "Mercedes, get this through your thick skull, I will never love you. You are ugly, whereas your sister is beautiful, you do not have a college degree, you sister does, you tell lies, your sister doesn't, did I mention she doesn't get drunk and fall in bed with drug addicts like you do. You are not even successful like her, so I know for a fact that you are only doing this for what's in my bank account and the jealousy you have for her is extreme. Do us all a favor, go in a hole and die." 

"With that, Roman walks away and that day is the day I let go of him. Good bye Roman, for the truth, will come out."
