I was watching tv in the living room when Zak returned home from school. He literally threw his bag across the room and sat down on the sofa next to me. Well, this was new. I looked at him similar to how my mother did this morning. Like he was a stranger in my home.
"Zak?" He didn't even acknowledge that I said anything just sank into the sofa like it would eat him up. He must have had a bad day to not go straight upstairs and go on his Xbox. "Are you okay?"
He looked over to me for the first time today and I could see the look on his face silently asking me when I got here but I chose to ignore it. "Yeah I'm fine."
"Are you sure?" I know I'm being nosey but I don't care.
"No, I got detention again!" he told me and then sighed. Zak was always getting detentions. Not because he's a troublesome teenager who doesn't do what he's told, but because he refuses to do his homework.
"Well, maybe if you did your homework you wouldn't get detention then would you." Ive had this conversation a million times with Zak since he started high school but he just can't seem to be bothered with anything to do with school accept his friends.
"Yeah i know Zadia!" After that he got up and went upstairs without picking up his school bag. I hate having to lecture him about his schoolwork but mum never does so that leaves it to me. Honestly i feel like his second mother sometimes. That's on the rare occasion that i actually see the boy.
After Zak had left i got back into watching some random things that were on the tv. Nothing was interesting. I was completely bored, nothing to do. i lied down on the sofa and looked up at the ceiling. It wasn't a very interesting ceiling and so i had nothing good to look at but it gave me a chance to think about how i haven't talked to my friends back in England for a while now. I looked across the room and at the clock. They would be at school now. That put a huge frown on my face. I imagined myself to look like one of those six year olds who haven't got what they want. I lied back down on the sofa for a while until my mobile started to ring. Thankfully it was in my pocket so i didn't have to move which i was happy for. It was comfortable lying on the sofa. I pulled out my phone and didn't look at the caller ID as usual.
"Hello?" I wonder if my voice sounds funny when I'm on the phone. Mums voice sounds really posh and one of my friends back in England voices used to go really high.
"Zadia, I'm going to be back late again tonight. There's some money in my purse so you need to go to the store and get something for you and Zak's tea. Okay?"
"Yes mum, i will leave in a minute. What time will you be back?" If it was late again i would have to stay up an make sure Zak doesn't put the chain on again.
"Don't worry honey, I'll be back before you go to bed. I promise." With that she hung up and I went to fetch my coat. It was cold outside and it was already getting dark. Great, I hate having to go out in the dark on my own. I called up to Zak and told him I had to go to the store to get food for us and I left the house. I walked down the street and admired the huge houses that were on our street. I couldn't understand how we could live on the same street as these people. Our house was tiny and these were massive. It must be strange to walk down the street an look at all these huge houses and then walk a little further and see ours, must be a shock to some people.
I finally made it to the store about 15 minutes later. I decided that we would be having spaghetti bolognese for tea tonight so I got the ingredient, paid and made my way outside of the store. I hadn't realised how many people were on the street before I went into the store but there must of been about 20 teenagers drunk standing down the street that I had to walk down.
Taking a deep breath I walked past the group without a problem and let out a sigh of relief. I carried on walking down streets until I came to they alley way that I had to walk through to get home. I contemplated walking the long way round which would take me an extra 15 minutes and I didn't want to leave Zak on his own for that long so I decided to quit being a baby and walked down the deserted alley way. I was nearly at the end when I heard loud footsteps coming down the alley way. I quickened my pace and so did the footsteps.
