I sit down first period in baggy sweatpants and a t-shirt that's now too big on me. I barely slept last night. After finally falling asleep around 4am I woke up only an hour later screaming and crying and drenched in a cold sweat.
I take out my notebook and start copying the notes. Everyone around me is goofing off because the teacher is late. I don't join in, there's no one for me to join in with. I have no friends. I used to, but they faded away along with my happiness. I barely try talking to people anymore. They all whisper about me, but if I open my mouth up to have a conversation with them they make up an excuse that they can't talk or they only reply with one word answers.
"Excuse me!" Mrs. Waters; my global teacher walks in angrily. "This is not how young adults should behave. I apologize for my tardiness, but I was showing our new student to our room. Now everyone to their seats. The students murmur and noisily fall into every chair except the one next to me. Mrs. Waters steps forward from the hallway and behind her walks in a tall, brunette boy with large glasses. "This is Brian. Brian you can go sit next to Annabelle." Everyone watches him walk over and sit next to me. The girls glare at me enviously. I study him as he sits down and reaches out a hand to me.
"Nice to meet you Annabelle." He smiles.
I reach out hesitantly and shake his large hand, "Hi." I say awkwardly.
