Chapter 1 - How It All Started!

"Steve, what's your status?"

"The number only keeps increasing. It seems like we're losing. We're losing our soldiers too."

"We just have to hold on a little longer. I hope Natasha is already on her way to close the portal. Nat?"

"On it!"

Well, you may wonder how it all came to this situation. I actually myself don't know how I landed here. But I guess, this is my destiny now. Whatever it takes, I'll keep helping others.

*Emma's POV*

"And then Iron Man was like woosh. He came out of nowhere and blasted those creatures into ash. That was so cool!" I hear yet another girl fangirling over the Avengers as I explain walk by to find my lecture room. I just roll my eyes and keep walking. My uni is enormous and I think I'll get cramps just by trying to find out where I have to go every lecture.

But seriously, this Avengers crap is just too much. Seems like everyone in this world sees them as heroes, except for me. I just see them differently. I mean it's great that they always swoop in to save the city and all, but when you think about, the city is always put under danger BECAUSE OF THEM. If they just didn't exist, earth would be a much better and safer place. Oh well, who cares about my opinion anyway, I'm just a civilian.

"YO, EMMA!" MJ shouts from down the hallway. She runs towards me. Everyone turns to look at her. But she never cares. She just does her thing. I like that about her. But sometimes it's still embarrassing. "How many times do I still need to tell you? Don't shout like that!" I pull her to me and whisper, ignoring the weird looks everyone was giving us, as always. "Who cares anyway? I just wanted to ask you if you're free this weekend. Peter got tickets for that movie you wanted to watch."  MJ says. "He got tickets for Back to The Future? NO WAY!" I got low-key excited, I actually wanted to jump up and down, but controlled myself. "Yeah, that. So what do ya say?"

MJ was the one who approached me my first day of college. She is at first glance gloomy and rude, but once you get to know her, she's the most amazing person you could ever meet. And naturally I got to know her boyfriend, Peter and his friend Ned, and now we're a quadruple crew. "The movie's on Saturday night, don't forget." With that, MJ went off to find her own lecture room. My face immediately fell. Saturday night, the movie's on Saturday night. I can forget going there. My dad has his project presentation that day and he always wants his family to be present to maintain the "good image". Ugh.

Yes, my dad's Fabian Michaels, the CEO of Michaels Industries, co partner of Stark Industries. And this Saturday both parties are presenting their new project, the Imperium. Oh well, I couldn't care less about their technology bullshit.

After such a long day at uni, I was waiting at the bus stop for my bus. That's when I noticed the sign saying that all busses were cancelled for today. Great, just what I needed. I wanted to call my dad to ask him to come pick me up, but he would just get mad at me. I was just a waste of his precious time for him, always. So I decided to walk home. It's not that far, anyway.

As I was walking home, I feel the ground under me shaking and I hear sounds of gunshots and crashing. As I walk further, the ground shakes more and more harder and the sounds get more and more louder. The city gradually comes into view. It's a disaster. People scream and run everywhere. There are these creepy creatures hanging off buildings, just like the ones from New York. Wait, isn't that Chitauri? What are they doing here in Brooklyn? Police patrol cars are roaming around and--- Wait, did I see Iron Man? Wow what a surprise. Where there's trouble, there are the Avengers.

I just stand there taking everything in. Brooklyn has never seen such damage. Anything bad happening was usually in New York. I am not used to this. Out of nowhere, Iron Man blasts this creature hanging off a building in front of me and the creature just goes down in ashes. But along with that, the building gets cut off into two and it starts crumbling, falling towards where I was standing. Oh god. I wanted to run away, but surprisingly I just froze in place. I closed my eyes hoping everything would be alright. But a pair of hands grabbed my hips and pushed me down, shielding me with his body covered over mine. I just closed my eyes, afraid to open them.
