I was waiting on the subway platform. My phone buzzed, and I pulled it out.

Mika: Hey, change of plans. I'm just going to go home, I'm not feeling too well.

My shoulders fell as I read Mika's text. This means I'm just going to have to go home too, huh? Or I guess I could take Akira's... no, I don't have his contact. Plus, why??? I left the platform and was about to leave the station when my phone buzzed again. And trust me when I say it was a surprise.

Akira: Hey (y/n), it's me, Akira.

(y/n): Whoa! Hi! How'd you get my info??

Akira: It's a little embarrassing, but I saw your number while you were texting your friend.

(y/n): Oh...

(y/n): That is kinda strange.

(y/n): Anyway, my friend decided to cancel, actually.

My hands moved on their own as I typed it out, and the second I hit send on that, I felt a sense of dread rise in my stomach. I really had to go and say that, huh?

Akira: Does that mean you'll take me up on my offer?

(y/n): Yeah, sure.

Akira: Fantastic! It's LeBlanc, in Yongen-Jaya.

He's kidding. This has to be a joke. LeBlanc is across the street from my house, and he's telling me...? Does he frequent it? Oh my God, am I going to be seeing him even more? I was scared at the thought, but also slightly intrigued. I just need to make sure to not get on his bad side, or else I'll have to move, I guess.

(y/n): Well then. I'll see you in half an hour?

Akira: It's a date.

That cocky son of a-! I actually almost laughed at his text. It's a little hard to believe that this guy has a criminal record. Maybe it was just a rumor?

I made my way to LeBlanc, only to see Akira struggling with the door. I decided that this was a perfect opportunity to see what he's really like, and didn't make my presence known.

He seemed to be yelling at a person more than a door, but he still was talking to a door. "Damnit, Sojiro, tell me when you're locking up early for once!" He groaned, released the door handle, and fished around in his pocket. I watched as he pulled out a... I can't see from here. Maybe it's a key? Either way, he unlocked the door and tossed whatever he was holding to the side. So clearly, it's not a key...

Akira walked into the shop, and I suddenly realized that I must seem kind of stalker-like. I shook my head, brushing off the thought, and entered LeBlanc.

The first thing I noticed was how clean it was. Normally, it's at least a little messy, but it looked like someone had just tided it up recently. That's actually... kind of strange. But I ignored it once again.

"Hey, love," Akira greeted me.

I blushed at the pet name. "H-Hi."

He tensed for a second like he realized what he said, then he smiled and seemed to brush it off. "Give me one second, and then I'll make you some coffee, okay love?"

Part of me wanted to be annoyed that he kept calling me that, but I decided to just roll with it. I sat down in the seat closest to the door and nodded. "Sure."

He disappeared up the stairs and came back a minute later out of his uniform and into some more comfortable looking clothes- a white t-shirt and some jeans.

That, ironically, is what made me speak up. "Do you part-time here?"

"Actually, I live in the attic," he laughed, throwing on a green apron.

That confused me even more. "I'm sorry, run that past me again?"

"Sojiro's my guardian for the year since I'm on probation," he explained.

"O-Oh..." That's right, he's still technically a criminal.

Akira sighed and shook his head. "But never mind that. Tell me how you want your coffee."

"I shouldn't be asking this, but can I look at them? LeBlanc always had this one coffee roast I loved, but it's been out of stock for a while," I explain.

"Of course," Akira says.

I come behind the counter and start looking for the blend as Akira stands a bit away from me so I can look better. It only takes me about a minute, because he doesn't have it. That's disappointing. I grab my second favorite blend and put it on the counter. "It's not here."

"That's unfortunate," Akira says. "This must be your next choice, right? I'll make it for you, okay?"

"That would be great," I smile. "Thank you, Akira."

Somehow, time seemed to fly by while I was talking to Akira. I must have spent at least four hours with him. It was early afternoon when I came to LeBlanc, but the next time I even glanced out the window, it was late evening.

"Oh crap!" I cried out. "My curfew! My parents are going to be pissed..."

"I'm sorry I kept you for so long," Akira apologized. "You should go."

"Right," I gathered my things and rushed out the door. "Thank you again for the coffee, Akira."

"It's my pleasure, love," he replied.

I left the cafe with a blush on my face. Because of course, Akira had to say something like that.
