DaydreamShimmer, this is to tide you over until I come back. I know I haven't written in this book in quite awhile. So, to all of my dedicated readers, thanks for your patience.
The sun rises and my phone is ringing when I wake up. I smack the side table next to my bed to try to silence it. Finally, I find it and hit the answer button without thinking twice.
"Hello?" I say groggily into the phone.
"Hey, Liz! I didn't wake you up, did I?" Gus asks over the phone and an easy smile slides onto my face.
"Nope," I lie through my teeth, "Couldn't be more awake if I tried." I hear a voice in the background.
"You woke her up, Gus," Shawn's voice echoes through the phone and I roll my eyes without thinking twice.
"Why is he with you?" I ask Gus and I hear Gus say to Shawn,
"Do you want to walk or not?" I cross my arms over my tank top and wait for my cousin to answer.
"Gus..." I call out and Gus returns to the phone.
"Sorry, Liz," he says quickly, "Do you want us to pick you up? We haven't grabbed breakfast yet."
"You haven't?" I ask as I start to rummage around in my suitcase for some clothes.
"No. Would you like to join us?" Gus asks and I think for a second.
"Okay. I have nothing better to do and this house feels so lonely without Mom and Dad here so, I guess I might as well," I say and I hear a muffled conversation going on in the background, "Guys?"
"We'll come pick you up in a few," Gus says and his voice makes me jump a little since I was not expecting it.
"Okay, thanks," I reply and the two of us hang up. I toss my phone onto my bed and get changed into some suitable clothes for the day. Once I am changed, I flop onto my parent's couch and scroll my phone until Gus arrives.
A few minutes later, a knock rings out on the door and my cousin is standing on the other side with Shawn.
"What is he doing here?" I ask Gus impatiently and Gus shrugs.
"He wouldn't stay in the car," he says and Shawn folds his arms across his chest.
"When do I get to be a part of this conversation?" Shawn asks and I shake my head.
"I'm afraid you don't," I say as I put my shoes on. Shawn looks sad and I roll my eyes.
"I forgot how bad of a morning person you were," he says and I resist the urge to slap him. Gus can see it in my eyes.
"I won't be sad if you do," he says to me and Shawn looks sad.
"Lizzy, I never thought you would sink that low," he says. I push past him and out to Gus's car.
"Don't mess with her, Shawn," I hear Gus say and Shawn starts to say something, but I don't quite catch what it is. I jump into the passenger seat of Gus's car and wait for him and Shawn to get over their argument. All I want is food and my parents. That's all I want. Is that too much to ask? Well, and maybe some peace and quiet from the wild card that is Shawn Spencer. Especially with what is going on right now with my parents. I notice Gus's car keys laying on the driver's seat. How mad would he be if I drove away in his car and got myself some breakfast? I resist the urge to pick up the car keys and slide into the driver's seat. Gus and Shawn move towards the car and Gus opens the driver's side door. He slides in and smiles at me.
