Chapter 13

I get my grandkids a lot to kill all the dead time I have at home. It keeps my mind off my husband's death and give me quality time with them. I know their moms and dads be glad too. They get a little break too. But today I'm here by myself and it's really hitting me. I miss Robert so much. Sometimes I wish it was me and not him gone. This hurt so bad. I don't know why this had to happen to me and my kids. August Alsina ruined my family. I pray everyday he gets what is coming to him.

My doorbell rung so I walked to answer it. "Good afternoon Mrs Riley. How are you today?" A man said at my door. "I'm fine and who are you?" I replied back.

"You may not remember me but I'm Robert's best friend James Stalks." "Oh yes. I do remember come on in." I said. "You felol on my mind and I haven't seen you since the funeral so I just wanted to stop by" James said to her as he walked in.

"Thank you for that. You want something to drink?"Lena asked him. "No thank you. I just want to talk to you and check in with you."James said as he sat on the sofa. "Well that was nice of you to do James. Actually your visit was right on time. I was having a little moment before you knocked on the door."Lena said softly.

"And that is to be expected. I know some time has passed but I know it still hurts. My wife has been dead for 10 years now and it still feels like yesterday. So trust me I do get it." He said touching my hand.

I smiled and looked him in his eyes. He smiled back at me and I got lost for a second. I didn't realize his eyes was so gorgeous. And he ain't a bad looking man himself. I cleared my throat and said "so what's your plans for today?"

"Well actually I just moved up the road from you and decided to come down and chat with you." "You moved on my block?" "Yeah I did. I know when Robert and I use to talk we always told each other if something happens we will take care the others family." He said.

"So I'm kind of cashing in on my promise to him you know." James said with a little chuckle. "Wow Robert told you that?" "Yes he did and I did as well. We got to. We was like brothers more than friends." James said looking me up and down.

I kind of felt uncomfortable because I was actually attracted to him. I feel like I'm cheating on my husband. I know I'm free to date being that my husband is gone but this still feels funny. "So I was wondering if you wasn't busy have dinner with me tonight?" James asked.

"You want me to have dinner with you?"Lena questioned him. "Yes I mean we both human, single, got to eat. So what do you say?" James asked. I thought about it for a minute. "That will be nice. I can do that." Lena agrees.

"Great. Let me go home and get freshened up and I'll be back to get you in a hour." James said. "Ok I'll be ready." Lena replied back smiling. James got up and walked to the door.

I walked him to the door and saw him out. I smiled a little. I can't believe I'm about to go on a date. I went to my room and took a shower and took care my hygiene.

I got dress and did my hair and makeup. I looked in the mirror and looked at myself. I looked nice. Then it hit me again. Robert is all I think about. I miss my husband so much. Am I doing him wrong by going out on this date?

I called my daughters on three way. "Hey my babies how are y'all?" "We doing fine mama what's wrong?" They asked. "What makes you feel like something is wrong?" Lena asked.

"Cause we can hear it in your voice mama." Amber said. "Well I just want to let y'all know I'm going on a dinner date with one of your fathers friends." "Wait when you say dinner date is this something that can get bigger or just dinner." Leslie asked her mom.

"It's just dinner. Y'all calm down." "And who is this friend? Do we know him?" Amber asked. "Frankly I don't know I just did remember him. But I'm going so I just wanted to let y'all know."

"Well call us if you need us and I will definitely come running." Amber said. "Yeah me too mama." Leslie added her two cent in. "Ok well let me get finished getting ready. He will be here before I know it. I love you girls." "We love you too mama." They said.

I hung up and went to the living room. Time I got there my doorbell rings. I opened the door and it was James. He looks so good too. I let him in. "You ready to go?" He asked. "Ready than ever." I said.

We walked out the door. He opened the door and closed it. He got in and we headed to the restaurant. We went to red lobster. I love that place. We got in and got seated.

We ordered and and the food came. We ate over dinner and laughed and talked. I can say this was really keeping me lifted. I learned that we have a lot in common as well. He reminds me of Robert actually.

After we ate dessert, we headed back to my place. As we walked in, I invited him in for coffee. As we sat on the couch we talked a little more. "I had a amazing time James"
"I'm glad you did. That was most definitely my aim." James said putting his hand on top of mine.

All of a sudden I felt butterflies in my stomach as he looked me in my eyes. "Can I ask you something?" James said. "Sure." I said nervously. "May I kiss you?"

I looked at him with a little doubt in my eyes but I said yes. He leaned in and we pecked on the lips. As we stared in each other eyes he kissed me passionately. I opened my mouth and gave him access into my mouth. I wrapped my arms around his neck and we kissed more. For a second I didn't know what I was doing and I pulled back after so long.

"Umm I think it's time for you to head on home." I said trying to catch my breath. "Ok umm walk me to the door." I walked him to the door and he said "I hope this ain't the last time we see each other." He said looking at me.

I smile and say "it won't." He kissed me on my cheek and walked out. I closed the door and leaned against it. Wow that was so amazing. I can't believe I kissed another man and liked it.
