The buzzing of my alarm clock startles me awake. Slowly glancing up to see the glowing red numbers read 6:00 am, I roll out of bed, throw on my sock monkey slippers, and make my way downstairs. The wood floor creaks against my feet as the rising sun shines through the open windows.

"Good morning, V. " my mom speaks with glee.

"Morning, mom." I respond with as little enthusiasm as possible. I've never been a morning person because mornings means school. My entire life i've dreaded school. It's not the fact that I hate learning because, don't get me wrong, I love to learn, it's more along the lines of being the school loner. Yes, you heard me right, the school loner. I never understood why such a name had to be entitled to me because I do in fact have friends, well, a friend.

Summer Harris is my one and only, literally, best friend. We grew up in the same neighborhood so ever since we were babies, we've been together. Summer seems to be the complete opposite of me. While she devours herself in floral dresses and pink lip gloss, I prefer plaid flannels and dark lipstick. Even though we have our many differences, we seem to stick like glue.

Once I make my way to the kitchen, I grab a banana from our fruit bowl and head back upstairs as quickly as possible, avoiding the usual "Did you sleep well, honey?" conversation from my mom.

It doesn't take me much to get ready, all I find the need to do is throw on a pair of light-wash skinny jeans, a graphic tee, and my converse then add a touch on eyeliner and lipstick, and boom, i'm ready. I sling my black backpack over my shoulder then grab my current read, The Maze Runner, my banana, and head back downstairs. I say bye to my mom and leave the house.

Before I even dare to walk down the front porch steps, I collect myself and prepare for yet another horrid day at school.
