Jaime Georges

Looking over my shoulder, I saw Adonis enter the lunchroom. With a small smirk, I slipped through the back door of the 900 building. Climbing up the staircase, I let out a sigh.

I would have never thought to have a conversation with anyone about my relationship with Agni and Nico.

Adonis is a smart cookie; I give him that. He managed to link my nickname to me easily. Maybe Griffin could've done the same if Agni and Nico hadn't frazzled him. I'm gonna have to give those two an earful later...

Reaching the third floor, I walked down the quiet halls. I walked to a small corner and settled there. Pulling out my shrimp scampi leftovers from Olive Garden, I pressed a small button to open the metal container. The food was still warm from when I heated it this morning. God bless Agni for his inventions. Taking out a fork, I swirled the pasta around it, bringing it to my lips. I moaned as the creamy pasta melted on my tongue. I'm so glad Agni begged us to go out to eat yesterday. I'll take leftovers over school lunch any day.

I chilled there alone, happily eating my lunch as I pondered over the past few days. Just last week, I was happily minding my business. Working out, spending time with my papa, my brother, and his wife, worrying about my classes, and making sure I stay clear of my ex.

Just for some of it to flip itself upside on its head.

I managed to befriend another basketball player while another needed my help, or he'll risk failing. Not to manage, the ex who I manage to evade for the past few months, saw me for the first time since I broke up with him. I sighed.

'This is what happens when you don't pay attention to your surroundings, Jaime,' my thoughts chided me. Now I have to be extra careful because now he'll be on the lookout for me. The longer my thoughts lingered on him, a frown worked its way onto my lips.

Nathan...

I remember when I first noticed him in freshman year. In the midst of the sea of new freshmen, returning sophomores and juniors, and happy seniors, he stuck out the most to me. His 6'1, lean muscular frame was clothed in a simple black and red "00" jersey, acid-washed blue jeans, and black and red Jordans on his feet. His dark skin, handsome face, dark brown eyes, and goofy smile had me blushing like the freshman I was. I thought he was a junior at least. It wasn't until I found out he was in my English I Honors, World History Honors, and AP Human Geography class.

It turns out he was a freshman too.

I honestly thought someone done set me up, placing me in such proximity to a guy who looked like he could be out of my league. Which he honest to God was. I tried to make myself as unnoticeable as possible, but with my awkward self, it didn't work out.

Day three of high school.

Besides getting confused about what building is and having my biology class switched three times already, it wasn't terrible. I was early on campus, seeing how my mother had somewhere to be at this ungodly hour in the morning, I was stuck on campus at 6:45 in the damn morning.

The sun is just barely over the horizon!

Sitting on a bench, I put on my earbuds to listen to my music and took out my sketchbook to draw while I waited for the bell to ring, which wouldn't be for a while. Bloody hell, I wish Agni or Nico was here. Losing myself in my little world, I didn't hear someone approach me until I felt the bench shift from under me. I let out a high-pitched squeal. Through my music, I heard,

"Whoa, it's okay." I looked to my left to see the same cute boy from my classes.

'Crap, what was his name again? Noah...? Nick...? Na...Nathan! That's it, Nathan!'
