Chapter 3 - it makes me sound like my mother
Friday rolled up pretty fast. The school week didn't really consist of anything interesting. Calum, Michael, and Ashton had continued to sit with us at lunch, but nothing really went on. Calum hadn't talked to me about anything, and Luke had practically ignored me. Of course I had seen him in the hallways and around the school, but we hadn't talked. We stole glances at each other, but only for a split second before one us looked away. I had tried to talk to him, like waiting at his locker or waiting outside after school for him, but he never showed up where I was. He seemed to be everywhere that I wasn't. So, by today, I got the hint that he really doesn't want to talk to me. That practically summed up the rest of my week. The most interesting thing that happened was that Michael died his hair a type of blood red color.
Honestly, I am so done with Luke's shit. I have been giving him his obviously needed space, but it's the end of the day, and he is supposed to be going to the movies with my friends and me, so I want to know if that is actually happening or not.
"Luke," I spot him in front of me, walking down the cobblestone steps. I sprint forward, weaving between multiple bodies to get to the blonde boy. Once I get to him, I place my hand on his shoulder and pull him back slightly. "Luke," I repeat.
Finally, he turns to me. "What?" Luke questions. He looks bored, as if he would rather be somewhere else.
I pull my hand off of his shoulder and say, "Uh, so about the movie tonight-"
"I'm not going," Luke blurts out.
I furrow my eyebrows, and take a step closer to Luke. "Why?"
"Because, I thought it over, Dawson, and I just don't want to go."
"Dawson?" I cock my head to the side.
Luke rolls his eyes and lets a smug grin slip onto his lips. "Yes, you know, like your last name?"
"Right, right," I mutter. "But please come to the movie. I know it's a chick flick and all, but it's the best thing out right now. Everything else is like marvel and crap like that. This is the only thing mature."
Luke stays silent for a while, pulling out his pack of cigarettes. He lights one and tilts it in my direction, offering it to me. I shake my head, which results in Luke taking it for himself. "So, if I was to go to this movie, what movie would it be?"
I sliver of hope fills me that he might actually be coming. "You'll probably push me over and step on me if I tell you," I giggle.
I see the corners of Luke's lips turn up slightly. "Just tell me," he demands, trying not to giggle along with me.
"Promise me you won't make me bait?" Once Luke nods, I proceed. "Well, we're watching If I Stay. I know it's girly and stuff, but Dylan, Piper, and I really want to see it."
"I really am tempted to push you over and step on you right now," Luke rolls his eyes and bumps shoulders with mine as we continue to walk towards the parking lot. I push back with a fair amount of energy. "It's cute that you're trying, Dawson, but I'm stronger."
I stop pushing and shrug. "So are you coming to the movies?"
"I might. You'll just have to wait and see," Luke replies mysteriously. I really don't want to 'wait and see'. I want Luke to tell me, to tell me now. Why is he being so stubborn?
I groan, pushing him playfully. "Okay, well, maybe see you later," I begin walking backwards, so I'm still facing Luke.
He nods and takes a drag from his cigarette.
