It was a very busy day at the mall. Lines of shoppers waited in queues waited to get in the store to put there hands on the best stuff which was on sale. who could have thought that the day would come when Lillian Cassidy would have to stand in front of a store, trying to save her money which in fact her family had in abundance. Beads  of sweat rolled down her forehead. The store was jam packed as if it was the Christmas eve and all those who had forgotten to buy presents were struggling to at least get something nice.

"Hey lady, move your ass forward" A lady with extremely huge boobs and eyes which resembled an angry gorilla shouted. Lillian decided to give her a little space so she could move. she wasn't used to all this. The struggle was real. She had never visited this mall, it was considered cheap in her world and she dare not be seen shopping here by some of her high profile friends. Lillian had decided to turn into an independent young woman without any help from her family and run a business which she could call her own.

As she entered the shop, she decided to look for clothes which were cheap and classy at the same time. she had no idea that the mall was this crowded because she had never been here. the malls she usually went to were nothing short of heaven. you could smell Gucci perfumes and find the best lingerie displayed at the Victoria's secret stores. she missed the mall even more when she collided with a women smelling like a rotten fish.

"Watch your step young lady." the woman shouted at Lillian and glared at her. Lillian decided to mind her own business and started looking for polo shirts. Every cloth in the store seemed normal but the store was ghastly. it seemed as if it hadn't been renovated for ages. she found an extremely sophisticated polo shirt in medium and started looking for some more stuff. she again crashed into the same lady who now shot daggers at Lillian. she politely apologized for running into her over and over again and looked around the store. she found a printed top in yellow and decided that she loved it. everybody in the store was running for their lives, trying to get as much as they could.

After an hour or so, she found everything that she needed and got her billing done. The billing lady looked at her suspiciously. "You do not blend well with the crowd here. Have I seen you somewhere before?"

this question caught Lillian off guard. she hadn't been recognized by anyone until now but the lady at the counter had the eyes of the eagle. "No, of course not. Where would you see me? I have come here for the first time."

"Well, that is what I am asking, I have seen almost everybody here. been working here for almost 15 years. never seen you though. not here I mean but yeah seen you somewhere else."

"I am seeing you for the first time. could be a misunderstanding but never mind. how much do I owe you?"

"60 dollars. Cash or credit?"

"Cash"

"you seem like a card person. never mind." Lillian felt weird. the lady really had eyes of an eagle.

"you notice a lot but really, I am a cash person." the lady smiled at Lillian after hearing this. She was well aware that she was a notice, could even not miss the change in her husband's attitude when he slept with another woman.

"can I at least hope to see you around my small shop again?" Lillian smiled again, this smile came from the deepest corner of her heart. "I did not catch you name madam" Lillian said.

"you did not catch because I never told you silly. I am Amanda. "

"oh, nice name"

"If both of you done checkin' each other out, move it. you holdin' the line. move it." someone shouted from behind. it was the lady with the big boobs and eyes of an angry gorilla. Lillian gasped at the expressions of the lady, who looked absolutely scary of the expression.

"what you gawkin' at young lady. I say move it. move it!"

"I am so sorry" Lillian said in a soft but scared tone and moved out of the way of the lady only after briefly smiling at Amanda.

Lillian reached the parking lot panting and sweating. Today was a disaster but a step towards a new life, a life she wanted to create for herself. as soon as she went inside her car, she relaxed a bit, switched the air conditioner on and heaved a sigh of relief. she started driving back to her parent's place as soon as she was at ease. satisfied with herself she looked in the rear view mirror, smiled at herself for her accomplishment and turned on the radio. the drive back home was a karaoke to all her favorite pop songs.

Lillian's parents house was huge, It could fit in 50 giant elephants into it, and that is about the first floor only. The second floor was even more spacious, with extending balcony's and large swimming pools with each room. Lillian had the biggest room, being the eldest of the two siblings. when she reached home, she managed to sneak her stuff into her room without anyone noticing it. If her mom had seen that she was buying stuff from downtown, she would be hanged to death by both her parents.

Her room was the only place she loved to be in, in this huge house. Sometimes she wished she was not given anything on the platter. She did not want this life. She did not want to go to the brunch with her family every Sunday to meet her grandparents and the whole troupe of show-offs. she wanted a plain and a simple life, away from limelight and drama. Away from the people who never judged what she wore, which brand's bag she carried or the cars she drove.

She jumped on her bed, inhaling her favorite vanilla fragrance that came out of it. Her eyes immediately closed and she drifted off into a wonderful nap where she dreamed about sailing in the clouds on her father's yacht.

She was woken up by her mother, who informed her that her father's friend was coming over to dine with them tonight with their entire family. She was supposed to wear something classy and decent but Lillian at zero interest in what was being told to her. She was just thinking about the freshly baked cinnamon bun smell that was coming into her room. her stomach growled, she had an appetite of a giant Chinese Panda.

"Am I smelling cinnamon buns?' She asked her mother.

"Yeah, Laura just baked them."

"Did she bake plenty?"

"of course she did Lillian, she knows you have an appetite of an orangutan." Her mother laughed at her own stupid joke but it kind of made Lillian smile too, she was really a heavy eater.

"I though you went shopping, I don't see no bags." she said looking around the room.

"I forgot to fetch them from the car." Lillian lied.

"I heard they have a new lingerie store in the mall. Did you check that out?"

"No, I did not."

"Get ready fast, be nice and don't start fighting with Devon again." her mom said. hearing Devon's name brought her childhood's fear back to life.

"What? Devon is coming? why?"

"what do you mean why, it is a family dinner."

"but, wasn't he in Japan or something. Working on some building."

"Yes. he was. He came back to his home. Lillian, you are being stupid. Get ready fast." Her mother said and left the room.

All Lillian could think about while getting ready was that she had to encounter Devon again and she surely did not want to see that devil who stole her first kiss and gave her sleepless nights for over a week. Her blood boiled at the thought of him.
