This is a flashback chapter. It simply shows the background on Caitlin's family, which is important for season 2.
Bella sat on her couch. Her baby, gone. She was supposed to get her back. That was the deal. Everyone was released from testing facilities, now that the rebellion had won. But, she didn't have her baby girl. She had been told a hard fact.
Her baby was dead.
And she believed it.
The next five years, she got better. She put on a smile, but the fact that she would never see her baby crushed her. She had joined the army with her husband, George. They were in a small taskforce of gifted soldiers. It was easy for them. Took their minds off their daughter. But, not today.
"Bella."
Bella looked up at her new best friend, Lilly. "Yeah?"
"What's wrong? You look... Upset."
Bella sighs. "I had a daughter. We were supposed to get her after the rebellion but... she was presumed dead. Today... Today she would be 5."
Lilly frowned. "Oh, Bella. I'm so sorry."
"I'm okay. Just one day at a time. Right?"
8 more years of service until Bella amd George leave. Bella demands that they leave. George is confused on why, but follows his wife. "Bella."
Bella looked at her husband, who was standing in the doorway of their bedroom while she laid on the bed. She sat up. "Yeah?"
"Why did you want to leave so bad?"
Bella sighs. "I'm pregnant."
George's eyes widen momentarily. "What?"
Bella nods. "George. I can't lose another baby. I can't. I-I won't."
"Hey, we aren't losing this baby. I promise."
9 months later, young Jack is brought into this world. During his first few months of life, he showed no signs of powers. This made no sense. As far as George and Bella were aware, all of their kids were supposed to be gifted.
"Bella. If you cheated, just tell me."
"Cheated?" Bella stood up, holding Jack. "Are you kidding me?"
"He's human! He can't be mine!"
"He is! Let's go to the doctor! Prove it!"
"Fine!"
The next week, they stood at the doctors, waiting impatiently. "He's biologically yours." The doctor says.
"See? I told you that I didn't cheat!"
"Then how is he human?"
"He isn't. I ran some more tests. And he is indeed gifted. But, not the kind that you think."
"What do you mean?" Bella asks.
"He's a power gifted. See, he can't do anything, but other gifted can. If he comes into contact with another gifted, they will get any power they've ever dreamed of to use. And it will be very powerful."
Bella looked worried. She went to pick Jack up, but the doctor beat her to it. "I'm sorry, ma'am. But, we need him."
"No!" Bella moves to get her baby, but two men walk into the room and hold her and George back.
"We'll take good care of him."
And that was the last Bella and George Tanner ever heard of their son.
