She looked over at the bed next to her
Where once lived a friend.
They would have l o n g conversations
That etched deep into the night
When the rest of the world was fast asleep.
They wouldn't surpress their laughter
Nor be reduced to whispers -
Rather, they relished the idea of
h a p p i n e s s
With whatever little they had...
"Do you think that sharing a wish stops it from coming true?" she asked him one day.
"I don't think it should make a difference" he replied cooly
"Then again, why think that wishing would make a difference..."
She closed her eyes.
