The noise was p u l s a t i n g
Like a stethoscope placed over a beating heart.
The door swung open and two doctors
Heavily creased with age and worry
Withnessed their patient with her arms outstretched.
“I’m going to fly” she said determinately, her eyes boring into theirs.
“I’m going to e s c a p e these walls after all!”
They looked at each other
And then edged closer to her carefully.
"Don't worry" they assured her
"You are s a f e here."
But she didn't know that the one arm behind their backs
Held a long slender needle.
