Matt dreaded the rest of his school day. After what seemed to be an eternity, he reached lunch time. He once again sat alone. A glowing light started coming from his backpack. A white spirit ball came next to him. A figure formed next to him. It was Soldier. His body seemed transparent. He had color, of course. But his color seemed faint.
"What's up?" Matt asked.
"What's up? The sky!" Soldier said like he was annoyed.
"You're joking, right?"
"I don't joke..." Soldier said quietly.
"Ok..." Matt said, trying to think of a way to remake his sentence so Soldier could understand. "How are you doing?"
"Terrible!" Soldier roared.
"Great..." Matt said sarcastically. He opened his Summoned Skull and Gaia the Fierce Knight lunchbox. He had a ham sandwich and a bottle of water.
"Looks terrible..." Soldier said, barely even looking at Matt's food.
"At least your direct," Matt reasoned.
"Where are your friends?" Soldier asked.
"Oh, I don't really have any..." Matt said, bowing his head down.
"Makes sense," Soldier agreed.
"Thanks," Matt said angrily.
"Why would you thank me for insulting you?" Soldier questioned.
"It's sarcasm!" Matt yelled.
"Sounds complicated."
"I already hate you," Matt said under his breath.
"Ditto!"
Matt heard a crowd of people talking. It was a large crowd. Matt could barely overhear them though.
"At Hero's Quest!" a girl said.
"Sounds great! I'd love to get some practice in!" a boy claimed.
"Like you need it, Drew! You're the best duelist in the school!" another boy claimed.
"Well, I am pretty good..." the boy, who was apparently named Drew, claimed.
The crowd walked off. Matt had a devious smile on his face.
"What're you so happy about?" Soldier asked.
"I'm going to duel today!" Matt exclaimed.
"You're not going to last long if you duel anyone."
"Would you shut up!"
"Shut what?" Soldier asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Just go back into my deck!" Matt demanded.
"It's better than watching your miserable school life," Soldier said as he turned into a white sphere and returned into Matt's deck.
"I wonder what he does in my deck..." Matt thought aloud.
School was finally over. Matt had looked on a map to see where this "Hero's Quest" was. The building wasn't too far from his school. After a little while of walking, Matt came across a two story, rectangular building. There were sliding doors that lead in to the yellow building. In big, red letter right above the doors, a sign read: "Hero's Quest! Begin your journey to become the best!"
He went in front of the doors, and they slid open. Matt's eyes widened. This place seemed amazing. It seemed a lot bigger on the inside than the outside. There was white tile all across the floor. Brown shelves filled with Duel Monsters tins, packs, and booster boxes were in the right corner of the store near the entrance. The counter was an oak wood that was "L" shaped. Behind it was a shelf full of little, glass boxes. Each of them had s lock on it. Each box seemed to have a rare card in it. Card tables to play on were surrounding a big, orange circle hat covered the middle of the store. There were stair in the back of the store, but there was a sign that said: "Employees Only!"
There was a black haired girl standing behind the counter. She had grey eyes, was wearing a blue apron of some sort, and had a white under shirt. She looked to be about sixteen. She looked pretty interested in what was going on in the orange circle.
Matt was amazed at what he saw. The black skinned, brown eyed, black, carpet haired like boy he had met the previous day had a duel disk on. He was dueling some other blonde girl. He placed a card on the disk and a dragon formed next to him. Matt was excited to get out there himself.
The girl behind the counter turned her attention on Matt. "Oh, sorry. Um, are you new here?" she asked.
"Oh...uh yes!" Matt answered, trying to it to be impressed by the duel that was going on.
"Then welcome to Hero's Quest!" the girl said with a smile.
"Thank you!" Matt replied.
"Are you looking to buy something?" the girl asked.
"Well...I" Matt looked at the name tag that was pinned to the girl's uniform. It read: "Hi! My name is Abigail!" "I really just came to check the place out," Matt said, not knowing what else to say.
"Oh, well if you don't mind..." Abigail returned her attention to the duel.
"Attack, Leyvaten!" the black skinned boy roared.
An orange dragon with a humongous blade slashed the boy's opponent. Her life points were reduced to zero. The boy had won.
"I just can't beat you, Drew! What is your secret?" his opponent asked.
A grin came upon the boy's face. "Well..." he turned around like he was going into an in depth story, but he froze when his eyes turned to Matt. "What are you doing here?" Drew sneered.
Matt realized in no time that Drew was talking to him. "I'm just...browsing..."
Drew didn't look convinced. "You wanted to duel, didn't you?" Drew asked.
"If I could get a duel..." Matt replied nervously.
An evil grin formed on Drew's face. "Alright kid, today's your lucky day!"
"What?"
"You're dueling me!"
"I am?" Matt asked. He couldn't believe it. It was time to show the people what he was made of.
"Come inside this orange circle! We'll duel!"
"Why are you going to waste your time with a loser like him?" a girl asked.
"It'll be amusing to see if he can do anything!" Drew replied.
Matt entered the arena like carpet. He opened his backpack and took out an old fashioned duel disk. Drew readied his. They both faced each other, each on opposite sides of the carpet.
"Get ready to play!" Matt exclaimed.
"That's a lame catchphrase!" Drew responded.
Drew LP 4000 Matt LP 4000
"I'll go first!" Drew roared. "Draw, I summon Dragunity Sword, but when it's summoned it switches to defense mode...
Dragunity Sword-Def: 1500-Level: 3
...and I set a face down! That's it!"
"Here we go!" Matt exclaimed, "I draw! I summon Dark Shine Dragon...
Dark Shine Dragon-Atk: 1600-Level: 4
...and I'll have him attack your Dragunity Sword!"
"Fine..." Drew said as he put his Dragunity Sword into the graveyard.
"I'll set a face down and end my turn!"
"This'll be all too simple..." Drew said with a grin. "Draw! Before I continue, I didn't catch your name."
"Matt..." Matt replied.
"Okay Matt, first lesson of dueling! I don't lose! I summon Dragunity Offering...
Dragunity Offering-Atk: 400-Level: 2
...by sacrificing this card, I can special summon one 'Dragunity' monster from my hand! I sacrifice him to summon Dragunity Arma Leyvaten!"
Draguntiy Arma Leyvaten-Atk: 2600-Level: 8
"Uh oh..." Matt worried.
"Now I activate his effect!" Drew shouted, "I equip a dragon type monster from my grave to Leyvaten! I choose Dragunity Sword! When Dragunity Sword is equipped to a monster, they gain three-hundred attack points and get one additional attack...
Draguntiy Arma Leyvaten-Atk: 2600 + 300 = 2900-Level: 8
...now go Leyvaten! Attack his Dark Shine Dragon!"
Matt LP 4000 - 1300 = 2700
"Now Leyvaten, attack him directly!" Drew shouted.
"I activate Negate Attack!" Matt shouted. "This not only stops your Attack, but ends your battle phase!" Matt then slapped himself in the forehead. If he had used it before, he wouldn't of lost Dark Shine Dragon.
"Your move...Matt!" Drew said smugly.
