chapter five
ten whole days
It had been ten whole days since Emily died.Ten days of Harry trying to convince Kelly to take him back. Ten whole days of Cordelia calling Vera and bursting into tears when she would not answer. Ten whole days of her sleeping on the couch at Harry's house in case Vera came searching for her. Ten whole days of which the girl began to lose hope.
That morning, Harry walked through the door to see Cordelia sitting on the couch. She stared ahead, face like stone.
"Kelly and I are over," he spoke, slamming the fridge closed and walking in front of the girl with a water bottle in hand. He gestured to her, but when she did move or even meet his eyes, he sighed. "Lia?"
She didn't budge, eyes glossing over with tears as she looked down at her phone. Completely ignoring the boy in front of her, she dialed the same number she'd been calling for the past ten days. Harry watched intently, unsure of what was going to happen.
"Hey, it's Vera. I probably just missed your call or I didn't answer on purpose. You know what to do at the-"
The line beeped, and Cordelia shakily brought the phone to her ear. "Vera." She sobbed, her free hand clasping over her mouth at the sound. "Where are you. I don't know what to do without you" Her body racked with sobs as Harry hastily pried the phone from her shaking hands.
"Hey." His voice barely edged above a whisper as he held the crying girls' hands out in front of her, rubbing circles over the cold skin. "Hey, hey, hey." Before he was thinking, he found her in his arms, clutched against her chest so tight she could feel his body move with every breath. "Let's get your mind off this, yeah?"

A mere twenty minutes later, Cordelia Bates found herself sat in Harry's mom's bathtub, warm water running over her body as Harry worked his fingers throughout her hair.
It had taken much persuasion for him to convince her she needed a bath, and while on a normal day, she knew she could do all the things he did for her alone, she couldn't help but feel grateful for his aid in getting her mind off her sister. After bringing the shower head over her to rinse out her hair, and wrapping the girl in a soft white towel, he sent Cordelia a smile.
The brunette girl found herself, for once in this weird place, feeling happy. She couldn't resist the smile that graced her face when they had made it to his room and she found Harry had pulled out her favorite button up of his and a pair of shorts for her to wear.
That smile that Harry couldn't help but think to himself was the cutest thing ever as he sat on his bed watching her button up the shirt. But he wasn't supposed to think that it was cute, right? He had Kelly, well not at the moment but she'd come around, she always did. He had to keep reminding himself this every time he couldn't help but point out the next cutest thing the girl in front of him did.
