ADELAIDE'S POV

"So, anymore news about that MAGCON thing coming here?" Nat questioned me the next day as I scrubbed down the table that recently sat an overwhelmed mother and her messy two year old son.

"Yeah," I mumbled, remembering what I heard Shawn sing and say on the TV yesterday, "I don't know when they're arriving, but at least I'll get to see Shawn again."

"He's a good friend of yours isn't he?' Nat asked, eyebrows raising as she smiled gently.

I just shrugged, removing my apron and hanging it by the oven. "I guess you could say that." I finally decided on saying, hiding the truth of how much I missed him and how much he actually mattered to me.

"Mhm." Nat hummed in response, sipping on her coffee. "Do you think he's changed? I mean, he's met all these girls, he's got new friends, he even has a new single."

Don't say that, my mind shot at her, I want the same Shawn back.

I guess I didn't know what to expect. I wanted Shawn to stay the same, but my expectations are just so high they're skyrocketing over the fact that I want him back the same so badly.

What if he comes back a total asshole? What if he completely forgot about me, only told me about MAGCON coming here just so I could spread the word?

"We don't have to be ordinary, make the best mistakes." Those words of his kept echoing in my mind, and I thought they had an important meaning to me somehow. But I shook my thoughts away and continued talking to Nat.

"I don't know yet." I replied, shrugging again and putting my flannel back on my shoulders.

"Huh. Well, don't be surprised if he comes back different."

. . .

The next day I trudged to work in old combat boots, head low. As I walked down the pavement, I saw two girls around my age giggling and squealing as they sat on a bench.

"Taylor's my favourite!" A tall, blonde girl revealing too much skin for this particularly overcast day exclaimed, giggling into her brunette friend.

"Nah, I love Nash." The brunette squealed, "I honestly can't wait for them to come here, oh my god. Do you think Shawn's going to perform his new single here first?! I mean, it's his hometown."

Hearing Shawn's name caused me to stop dead in my tracks, and caused the girls to look at me in disgust. After a while, their squeals started up again. I just shook my head and continued walking.

Everyone knows who they are now.

I hurried the rest of the way to the cafe, furiously blocking those girls' words out of my head, but they just wouldn't go away. My brain kept on receiving images of screaming fans with a minimal amount of clothing on crawling all over Shawn and his friends, contemplating their looks and frantically asking them all for pictures.

It made me disgusted.

I ran into Nat's cafe, tying my apron around my waist and neck swiftly and grabbing a customer's order. "Hi Nat." I smiled as I poured the man his cappuccino. "Hello, Adelaide." She replied, pulling a piece of bread out of the toaster.

I placed the lid on the man's drink and got him to pay. "Someone came in looking for you, Adelaide." Nat called out to me abruptly, as if she just remembered. "A boy; I think he just went to the bathroom."

I thanked the man for coming and turned around to face the entrance of the men's bathroom across the cafe, mind buzzing at who it might be. The door swung open a few seconds later, causing me to gasp and burst into a smile.

"Hi, Ads."
