SHAWN'S POV

As soon as the words fell out of my mouth I had an instant picture of her, a little motion picture of her face slowly smiling, her fringe falling in her face, her eyes shining yet a strange greyish colour gleaming with happiness.

Well at least that's what I want her to be. I hope she's happy I'm coming back. It's for her.

. . .

I frowned once we hung up, knowing that I we probably wouldn't get to talk for long - whenever we did, it was over the phone and usually rushed, hearing the heavy breathing and stressful sighs slipping from one another's mouths before hanging up.

It was funny though, that we could be a thousand miles apart with little contact, yet she lingered in my head; every little bit of her was my muse.

ADELAIDE'S POV

Shawn was coming back. After a whole year, he was finally coming back.

That was my initial reaction.

But after a while, the logic finally seeped back into my head - there was a reason why I preferred to stick by myself. Because I knew myself - I didn't have to predict who would ditch me, who would turn against me because there was no one.

Because people change. I just didn't think I could cope with the everchanging phases of those around me. It was like a part of them was dying and they felt a sudden urge to become this whole new person that was absolutely nothing like them inside.

What if the fame changed it all?

That thought killed me the most.

I mean it was to be expected - for a whole year we had probably spoke once every two months. I really didn't know much about him. How was I to know he changed or not?

How was I to know the real Shawn, when he barely knew me?

When I barely knew me.

"Adelaide."

"Adelaide!" Nat called out, pulling me out of my thoughts as I snapped my head in her direction.

"I'm leaving now, make sure to lock up, yeah?" She instructed as she gathered her belongings that lay scattered on the counter.

"Oh- yeah sure. I'm just going to finish up these tables." I muttered, only realising then that it was well after dark - the few visible stars twinkling by the moon the hid behind the angry grey clouds.

"Don't work yourself too hard." She smiled, rushing out of the door over to her car right in front.

Sighing, thankful that I finally get to be alone and process my thoughts, I drifted back to Shawn.

I had so many thoughts rushing though it was hard to process anything. I couldn't make up my mind whether I was glad he was coming back.

As if on cue, his familiar soothing voice played, except not in my head.

Looking up at the corner, I saw him standing next to a slim blonde woman, nodding as if processing every word he said as she watched him speak into the microphone in her perfectly manicured hand.

Dropping my cloth on the table, I jogged over to the counter, opening the back drawer and retrieving the remote, I turned it up, watching as the brightness flickered before sitting back down at a table watching intently, careful not to miss a word.

"Hey it's Shawn Mendes and this is a sneak peak of my newest single, Life of the Party." He gushed, his smile growing by the second. "Hope you like it."

My eyes widened, and a small smile soon appeared while I listened; taking in his beautiful voice, letting out perfect notes, and quoting what he once told me.

"We don't have to be ordinary, make your best mistakes."

Brushing the hair out of my face, I regained myself and grabbed the cloth I had dropped by my side, approaching the next table as I continued to listen to the soft playing sound of the music fading off.

"Well wasn't that something? Can you tell us what exactly the song is about?" The reporter asked, somewhat overly exaggerated that you could see right through her full eyes that the excitement was completely inexistent.

Smiling, he looked down at his feet before chewing on his bottom lip, making him seem so adorable and shy.

"It just shows you that you don't have to be like everyone else. You don't have to be ordinary; you don't have to conform, because in the end it's those who don't fit it who are the ones who don't need to. It leaves you there thinking 'damn, something about her is truly special.'" Shawn explained, seeming to get lost in his words while the reporter nodded by each word.

"So it's about a her, is it?"

I paused in my tracks, turning my head to watch him. His eyes flickered from the floor to the camera before he settled for the former, fiddling nervously with the sleeve of his flannel.

"Yeah... I guess so. " He responded slowly, his cheeks falling a light shade of red as a small grin appeared on his face.

"So who's this lucky girl - the adorn by Shawn Mendes himself!"

"It's a friend of mine." He paused as he thought. He saw me as a friend? To be honest I didn't exactly know what this was. "This is for yo-" I waited, watching as the reporter smiled widely, knowing she would probably get a bonus for her tip story, Shawn biting nervously on the inside of his cheek before announcing who it was.

Up until I was interrupted, my attention brought back to Nat who bustled back into the cafe doors, looking flustered and out of breath.

"You're still here? I dropped by because I forgot my keys." She announced, running over to the counter where she scrambled through the small clutter. "Hey Adelaide can you help me out for a sec?"

Sighing, I ran over, grabbing her led that we're propped behind the register and tossing it into her hands as she smiled.

"Guess I don't have to sleep in my car now." She joked, collecting her bag off of a table nearby.

"C'mon kid how about I drive you home?" I nodded politely, before running over and retrieving my own backpack behind the counter.

Glancing back to the TV, I saw that it was over. I missed it all.

I missed Shawn.

"You coming, or what?"

"Y-yeah, right behind you." I replied, just wanting to go home and sleep and not have to stress about the thoughts that ran through my head.

Thoughts in this case, being Shawn
