Wellston. The new town we moved to after rachel left.It was close to the countryside but was rather urbanised at the same time. Our house was in a peaceful neighbourhood. so far .
It was10 when i left home and now i was a few yards away from it. I decided to go for a walk since valerie was late. Which wasn't like her at all.I had a baby blue tank top and my usual dark blue denim on and i was pleased with it thanks to the weather outside. It was windy and the breeze was utterly refreshing. The air smelled like ...daisies. Rachel ,was like a daisy in a way ..i told myself .She was like a violet by a mossy stone. simple and un-sophisticated But breath takingly beautiful.
I had wondered off down the sunny street waving hello and nodding to some of our new neighbours who had previously payed a visit with baked goods to welcome my family. I recognised a few but smiled at everyone regardless. Everyone seemed to be busy with some thing no matter how trivial it was. Miss Anders was trimming some bushes commenting to herself and Mrs Cheryl was talking to a sales person. My gaze was next settled on a colossal mansion which seemed out of place in this small neighbourhood. having nothing else to do i decided to do some digging. i walked over to it's black metal gates and read the silver plate that hung from two silver chains. Hamilton's
Well thats certainly a very common name. With that i began examining everything, from its architecture to its eco-friendly flower pots. It was until i noticed a familiar box. which was now carefully placed on a cane chair on of the balconies. I noticed props scribbled on to one of its sides.Crossing my arms i started thinking why do i always invade personal spaces. A hard habbit to lose. I concluded finally. Right before diving further in to the matter my attention was averted to the faint honking. Shielding my eyes from the early rays of sunlight i looked back searching for the source of the familiar horn. A Black sudan was parked near our new house , beside it was a faint image of a man with presumably a mobile thrusted to his ear.
Valerie
I had forgotten my aunts request to be present at the front door at ten.She was anything but hot tempered but she loathed people who didn't value punctuality.
So basically people like me
Despite my dislike in doing things as bid by others i often hated disappointing people at the same time. I know. Im a hot mess.
Hurriedly i waved my arms trying to catch his attention before he decided to call valerie informing my absence.
He showed no reaction i decided to run back since i saw him gracefully getting in to the sudan concealing the mobile in one of his pockets .
"Hey!! wait up!! hey !" i ran hysterically while the wind whipped my hair in every direction. I passed the colosal mansion then Miss cheryls , now i could almost see the smug face of the man inside . Bastard. He must have seen me down the road and waited for me to run back up again.
I slowed down and almost jogged to the car and got in sweating gallons. i settled in to the back seat and collapsed with a huge sigh. I was known for ruining her fragrant back seats. And i guessed the mystery driver might too. So i stretched out my legs and propped myself on the seat with my dusty sneakers on.
I saw him looking at me with the corner of his eye. And his smug face soon disappeared. Pleased with my position on the cool leather seats i searched my pockets for my ipod. Nothing like loud music at times like these.
"And here i was thinking why a lady like your self would get expelled from school " the mystery driver broke the silence when i was about to press play.
confused as to what he was referring to i said "i beg your pardon?" quite loudly too, since i had my headphones on.
He shook his head with his previous smugness.
"No tell me. If you start a conversation have the decency to finish it" i said sharply
"woah slow down , who said i wanted to converse with you miss..?" he waited for my reply
"serina" i said with my attention placed on the houses we passed.
"was talking a part of the job you were assigned today mister..?" i inquired with a grin , still gazing at my neighbourhood that seemed to zoom past us as the sudan drove.
Im not a rude person. But he clearly wasn't giving me a choice.
He chuckled "job? look here serina" he emphasized my name "i volunteered because Mr.Thompson was sick and valerie didn't have the time to look for a substitute " he said as if he was doing me a favour.
That was the first time i heard valeries employees calling her by her first name without honorifics. She was my aunt but i had gotten used to calling her that since i thought she was my sister when i was really small. She was shorter and looked alot like rachel then.
"you didn't introduce yourself mister- i volunteered"
"You can call me Brian" he said. I couldn't see his face but by the corner of his mouth i could tell he was grinning.
Mr.Thompson was the usual driver who picked me up for similar valerie voyages. He knew me and would wait atleast half an hour before calling valerie. And would always roll down all the shutters since he knew i hate AC. I tend to shiver at the slightest drop in temperature. And it annoys me. But since i ran all the way to the sudan i was sweating like a hog and i didn't mind a bit of AC.
"Nice name. Really common. suits you" i said pleasantly.
"I've heard worse" he replied
"i was being nice." i said chuckling.
Afterwords neither of us really spoke. He was focused on the road and i was dozing off. I noticed something. People in wellston are really easy to talk to. Coming from me thats saying alot. Or Had i changed ?
