Chapter 42:

Austin led me to his bedroom as soon as I entered his house. I greeted Mrs Ryder when we passed her in the living room. I gave Jessie her burger when I saw her playing with her doll house on the carpet.

"So what is this whole project about?" Austin asked while spreading a blanket on the floor and putting our biology books on it.
He sat down and I sat down cross legged next to him.

"Basically we have to make a cell. It can be a animal cell or a plant cell." I explained as I took out my burger and gave Austin his. He thanked me as he took a huge bite.

"Let's make an animal cell. It'll be easier." He suggested.

"Okay, I'm gonna write down the materials we gonna need and you can help me find them." I said, taking out my notebook and a pen from my bag. I placed my burger down so I could write down the materials. Once I was finished I ripped the page from the notebook and handed it to Austin. He scanned the page before asking, "When do we need these?"

I chewed my food and swallowed before answering, "Tomorrow would be great. We need to finish this project as soon as possible."

"Why? You don't like being my partner?" Austin asked with a sly smile.

"No, it's not that. Everyone in class has started with their projects except us."

"I'll have these material ready by tomorrow." He promised.

"How are you gonna get them if you don't leave the house?" I asked

He avoided my gaze as he looked at the floor, "I'll ask my mom to get them for us."

I nodded my head at him as I finished eating my burger. I packed up my bag, getting ready to leave. Austin offered to clean up the mess.

"I guess I'll see you tomorrow then." I said as I walked towards the front door, I said my goodbyes to Mrs Ryder and kissed Jessie on her forehead.

"Wait!"

I was just about to open the door when Austin stopped me, "Yes?"

"I'll walk you home."

______________

"Are you feeling cold?" Austin asked me. It was getting late, the sky was beginning to produce dark pregnant clouds. The sun was slowly setting. Cars passed us as we continued to walk.

"No." I lied. I clenched my teeth to stop them from chattering. I hugged myself to keep myself warm.

I stopped on my tracks when a warm jacket was placed on my shoulders.

"Oh no, you don't have to." I said as I took the jacket off and handed it back to Austin.

"Just wear it Aaliyah, I can see you're feeling cold."

"Yeah right, how can you see that?" I asked, rolling my eyes.

He stopped walked and took my hand and placed it in his. Slowly, he began to trace my fingers, my wrist then my arm. He trailed his index finger slowly up and down my arm, which caused me to shiver. His touch was sending shivers down my spine.

"Chicken skin. You have chicken skin. That's how I know that you're feeling cold." He said.

I turned my head away from him to hide my blush and took the jacket from him. I put his jacket on before we continued walking.

I gasped as a drop of water connected with my face. In a matter of minutes it started raining hard. Austin took my hand as we ran in the rain.

"Dammit! I knew I should have took my car." Austin mumbled.

"But you didn't. You know why? Because you're stupid." I said loudly so he could hear me.

He stopped running which also caused me to stop since he was holding my hand.

"I'm stupid?" He asked as he pointed to himself.

"I believe that's what I said." I said with a smirk on my lips.

He let go of my hand, "I'm giving you a head start because if I catch you..

My eyes went wide in terror as I ran away from Austin, running as fast as my short legs could allow me.

I continued running and I kept turning around to see if Austin was behind me. I ran faster when I saw him getting close. The rain was still pouring as we ran around in the quiet street like children. It felt like we were children. Normal children. With parents. Without bipolar. Without suicide thoughts.
Just normal children.

It was us against the world, or should I say against the rain.

I shrieked as Austin wrapped his arms around my waist and spinned me around. We didn't care about our soaking wet clothes. We laughed like we didn't have a single problem in the world.

"You know what I've always wanted to do?" Austin asked me.

"What?"

"To kiss a girl I'm in love with in the rain." He said before pressing his lips against mine.
