The game had been going fine, just fine. They were going back and forth for a while, with each inning each team gaining another few runs. By the end, they were all making fun of each other while playing. Someone would get out, then others would mock them (albeit playfully) about how easy the out was.
Skayler didn't. She'd never been too comfortable and what she'd seen on the internet about how she shouldn't do this, she had just decided to never do that. She would smile and laugh at whatever anyone would say, even join in a little bit, but never initiated anything. It was just her way.
Ninth inning. Top of the ninth, or what they thought was the ninth. They couldn't really care less about how many they played, just that this would be their last.
"Oi, Skayler!" James called from behind the plate as Braun stepped up.
She tilted her head. "Ya need something, Turtle?" She called back.
"Try a spitball!"
Everyone booed. She laughed at them all.
"That's illegal! If I get arrested, I'm throwin' you under the bus!"
And so she spat on the ball. She grimaced and faked a gag, hollering coming from the dugout and the field. Snorting softly, she threw a forkball. It seemed to shake slightly mid-air and Braun swung and missed. Even James didn't catch it, as it tipped off of his glove before bouncing to the backstop.
She laughed. "The all proclaimed 'Greatest Catcher in the League!' Couldn't catch a pitch!" She cried out, throwing her arms up towards the heavens. "All hail the great Spitball!" She added, the rest of her team crying it out as well.
"Alright! Fine! I've had my fun with it, do what you want," he snorted back. When she caught the ball, she looked out to the stands.
"I didn't know we would have some fans come out," she smiled, "all because I'm-" she snorted heavily. "I'm sorry I can't finish that sentence," she tossed her head back and laughed.
"Oh," James said and looked up. "Hi there!" He waved vigorously at the people standing there. They laughed and waved as well.
This inning was probably one of the most fun things Skayler had ever had the ability to witness.
