"James! Come on, James, pick up!" Skayler nearly shouted, trying to hiss through her teeth as she listened to his voicemail come through again.

"God damnit!" She gave up and flung her phone onto the chair that she had once been sitting in, pacing relentlessly. Skayler was panicking and it was quickly showing, biting her lips and mouth, picking at the skin around her fingers.

She grabbed the phone once more, dialing his number more urgently this time and placing it next to her ear.

"Users mailbox is full, please try again later," she gaped, looking at her phone as though it had just slapped her. She ended the call, instead turning to text him.

'James, you need to get home, mom is hurt badly'

'James! Why aren't you answering me? You don't have any games today!'

'james please'

'james?'

She slowly stopped sending them, ending up sliding down into the chair and trying not to sob, her chest clenching around her heart and squeezing. Her nose burned from the oncoming tears, and she tried to wipe them away, biting the tip of her tongue.

It had been exactly 7 hours, 32 minutes and some odd amount of seconds since she got to the hospital. She had been pacing, napping and then pacing again. The cycle kept repeating, and she made sure to keep at least one nurse in sight at all times.

It was reaching the 8 hour mark when someone walked out and to her.

"Ma'am? You are the daughter of Miss Vuksan, correct?" Skayler nodded vigorously. He sighed. "We've got her stable and awake, for the most part, so you can come in and visit for a little while. You'll need to head home, though, as we need to keep her in the ICU," Skayler nodded again, fiddling with her hands and cracking her knuckles. He led her to her mothers room, who barely flinched at the sound of the door opening and closing.

Skayler sunk down onto her knees next to the bed.

"Ma, hey," she smiled softly. Carefully, she grabbed the warm hand of her mother. Pressing her lips to it, she sniffled back the tears. "I need you to listen, yeah?" Her mother moved her head, eyes opening slowly.

"Skayler?" Said girl nodded, moving to sit on the edge of the bed.

Skayler forced a smile, eyes teary and throat clenched tight.

"You'll never guess what I learned a couple days ago, ma," she smiled as her mother squeezed her hand. "I made it, Ma. I truly made it," her voice cracked as she choked back the tears, feeling like a rock was sitting in the pit of her stomach.

"You made it?"

"To the majors," Skayler hunched over, tears dripping from her eyelashes. The first from her left eye, before they started pouring down her face on either side. She swallowed. "The Brewers brought me up, ma," she almost choked on the words.

She smiled. "My beautiful girl, my wonderful girl, I am so incredibly proud of you," Skayler stomach clenched. "I love you, so, so much, my brave little girl," Skaylers sobs started to fill the room, her head lowering down, her forehead pressed to the top of her mothers hand. Her grip was tight, as was the older woman's grip, and seemed to never want to let go.

The door creaked open a bit. "I love you too, ma. More than you'll ever know," she smiled softly.

"Ma'am, its time to go," Skayler kissed her mothers forehead once before turning and leaving, following slowly out of the room.

Her heart was settling down and she wiped her eyes, trying to swallow down the feeling of abandonment that she had.

Skayler had gotten home ok. She texted James one last thing before going to bed.

'you better see her soon'
