Skayler awoke with a start, puffy eyes glancing over to the now made bed, perfectly folded sheets. When and where she'd fallen asleep she was clueless about, but found herself in the roll-in bed next to her mother- where her mother once was.
She sat up, arms shaky and eyes burning. Her throat and head ached, the faint pounding of her chest echoing around the scarily silent room. Her stomach rolled. The silence in the room filled her body with dread, her eyes were wide and her throat clenching tightly as her heart started pounding quickly.
'Where'd Ma go?'
Her heart nearly stopped as she realized what had happened. She let out a quiet sob, hand covering her mouth to keep the sounds at bay. She collapsed back into a chair that was near the door. As she wallowed in her misery, she'd missed the door opening. She also missed seeing a few of her teammates standing around behind him.
"Skayler?" James. That damned bastard! "Where's mom?" He spoke quietly, almost in an angry tone.
Her head raised, hands wet with her tears as she clenched her jaw tightly. Tears dripped down her face in a river, glaring at him.
"Why?" Her voice cracked.
"Skayler, what? Where's mom? Just tell me," he growled back to her.
"I sent you so many damn things, why weren't you here sooner?" She shouted at him, standing up and shoulders tensing.
"One of us has a job to do, I'm sure you wouldn't be able to understand the responsibility in playing for a team," he snarled.
Her mouth gaped, every few heartbeats sent a wave of an almost pain through her upper body.
"You fucking bastard," she hissed under her breath. "Our mother had laid in that bed over there," she pointed vigorously at said bed. "In pain. She laid there after someone broke into her house and stabbed her. Shot her," her breath caught in her throat. "You want to know what one of the last things she said was?"
"What," he hissed back.
"Where is my son'. That was because, while she was dying, you were nowhere to be seen!" Her voice raised, both in octave and volume, as she cried out the last few words. "She died without seeing her son, while I worked my ass off trying to keep her happy and comfortable! There was just one thing that she wanted, and that was you," her voice trailed off.
He scoffed. "It isn't my fault that she died," his face was giving off pain, while his eyes were wide and panicky.
"I can not believe that you are standing there acting as though nothing just happened. You have hurt me and our mother. And you couldn't get off your high horse to come fucking see her!" She sobbed out.
His body loomed over hers as he tensed up, and her instincts growled into her mind to get away from danger. Her arms flung out as she shoved him back, stumbling back herself.
"How fucking dare you. How dare you come in here and do anything to act as though you cared!" Tears poured down her face as her entire body tensed, ready to spring at him. Arms pulled her back, alongside pulling him back, before grappling around with a struggling woman who was nearly a foot smaller than most of them.
Her nails dug into the arms of whoever was gripping her tightly (it was Braun). One of her legs flailed back, kicking into him while trying to force her way towards James. She could faintly hear the call of help from them before another person force himself on her other side, her shrieks and sobs echoed around as she cursed him out.
She pushed and pulled, trying to wrestle her way out of their grip until she couldn't anymore. She gave up, dropping like a stone and leaving all of her weight in the arms of two men.
Skayler stayed there, sobbing and writhing, for an unknown amount of time before someone had pitied her enough to drive her home and left her to her misery.
