Elena was about to have the most insane week of her life. Would it be awesome or horrific? Chris watched as his new bride struggled to keep food down, struggled to be active. He felt her head and exclaimed "You have a really high fever! I'm taking you to a doctor."

Their honeymoon had just ended and they were back home. He scooped her up and carried her to his car. He drove to the hospital and checked her in immediately. She explained her symptoms "I have a fever, I can't eat anything, I can't drink anything, I've coughed up a little bit of blood, my head feels like it is going to explode out of my skull." The doctor ran blood tests to see what was wrong with her.

Chris and Elena talked while waiting on results. He grabbed her hand "Baby, whatever it is I am here. I will help you with anything." Elena felt a little better knowing he would be at her side regardless of how bad this was. She didn't feel pregnant, it felt like death. She wondered if she would die before she ever got pregnant... Or if she even would get pregnant.

Chris held her tight as she explained how crappy she felt "I love you Elena!" She said "I love you too! I just feel like we won't ever have another good thing happen." Chris sighed "Maybe you're reading too much into this. Maybe it's not as bad as you think." Elena coughed into a tissue and saw a clot of blood. She cried "Then why is it getting worse?"

She was so scared she would lose her life soon and he would be alone again. He looked into her eyes "Baby, I won't let you go down without a fight. If it is something horrible, I will pay for any treatment you need."

Elena felt very little comfort, but tried to smile for her husband. She was so incredibly nervous about what the doctor would tell her. She had a family history of disease and one in particular. The big C. It hadn't taken her parents, but her grandparents, her great grandparents, and beyond had all died from the terrible disease.

The doctor came back in and said "I have your results. We ran a test on your blood and we found elevated levels of which are often a sign of cancer. We need to do some scans to tell where it is coming from."

Right then, she broke down crying harder on Chris' shoulder. She did not want to be right. She was hoping this was all a nightmare and she would wake up just fine. She wanted anything but this. She would rather have gone back to being Chris' sub. That was far more pleasurable and enjoyable than hearing she may have cancer.

Chris waited outside the room while they did the cat scans and MRI's. They found a tumor growing on her left kidney and she asked "Is it possible to do a surgery right away?" The doctor said "We do not normally schedule one so quickly, but if you are insistent we can."

She talked it over with Chris and she decided "I want to do this. I can live with one kidney." He looked at her "They may not need to remove the whole thing." Elena told him "I would rather be safe now and remove it."

The doctor told her "Honestly we don't know if it is actually cancer. It could just be a growth. A cyst, a benign tumor..." Elena asked "Do I need a test done to be sure?" He told her "Yes. We stick a needle in your kidney and take samples to see if it is actually cancerous. If so, we can do the surgery. Otherwise surgery would be unnecessary."

Chris asked "Do you want to put yourself at unnecessary risks?" Elena wanted it gone, whatever it was. She wanted to give her husband a baby. She wanted to give him multiple babies. She asked the doctor "Will any of this risk me getting pregnant?"

The doctor told her "There are always risks, but if you feel insecure, we can always harvest eggs before we start anything. That way you can still have options down the road." Chris held her hand tight "I say we do that. If I end up needing to give a sample to make a baby, oh well. I just want you healthy."

She felt the big needle go through her side and it hurt like hell. She tried so hard to lie still as they took the tissue samples. Chris was there in her sight to help her remain calm. His eyes staring back at her while she endured such horrible pain.

She was able to go home after the test was done and it was the longest two days of her life. She laid in bed feeling super depressed and crying. Chris laid next to her and held her quietly. His arms wrapped around her waist holding her close.

She finally got a call from the doctor "Elena Evans?" She sadly answered "Yes. This is Elena." He told her "I have some bad news. It is in fact a cancerous tumor." She almost hung up on him and screamed into Chris' ear. She was devastated that she had cancer. The same cancer that killed her grandparents. The same cancer that would have killed her parents had they not died of other things first. Chris took the phone and asked "What are her options?"

The doctor told him "We can do the renal surgery to remove the infected kidney. If that is what she wants. We have an OR open today at 3 pm!" Chris looked at his wife asking "Do you want the surgery today?" Elena looked at him with a shred of hope "Yes!"

He told the doctor "When does she need to come in?" The doctor told him "She needs to stay off food or drink until she has the surgery." Chris said "She hasn't had anything since last night."

At noon, he rolled her into the hospital again and said "She is here for surgery." The lady pointed to the elevator and said "Fifth floor." Chris wheeled his wife up the elevator and to the check in area. He was nervous for her but also knew she would be okay. She was strong.

During the pre op, they inserted the IV to keep her hydrated and to later give medication. They put the oxygen mask to her face and told her "Countdown from 100."

Elena said faintly "100, 99, 98, 97, 96..." trailing off quietly to silence. Chris wanted so badly to be in the room but he was told to watch from the window.

Tbc...

Will the surgery remove the tumor?

Will she be able to fertilize her harvested eggs?

Will Chris be able to give a proper sample?
