Chapter 18: A Grandpa's Funeral

My mom got out of the hospital yesterday and I have been spending every moment with her. Today is Hunters Grandpa's funeral. He invited me but I probably won't go. I don't want to be rude, but I feel like I shouldn't be there, I never met him or knew him.

It was about time for the funeral to start and I heard a knock on the door, I answered it and saw Hunter standing there in a black suit and tie, "Why aren't you at the funeral?" I asked.

"I can't do it without you, you paid for the whole thing for crying out loud. Scar please just come."

"I didn't even know him, it would be rude."

"Really you paid for it, it would be rude if you didn't come."

I thought for a minute, "Fine but I'm not wearing a dress."

"That's fine just change fast." I ran up to my room and changed into a pair of skinny jeans and a nice black shirt with black high heel boots.

I walked down stairs and told my mom where I was going, "That was nice of you to pay for that I know you were saving up for a laptop."

I knew Hunter was listening and I regretted that she said it, I don't want Hunter to feel bad.

"Are you ready?" I asked Hunter.

"Sure," he said walking up to me, "I will pay you back."

"No Hunter it's okay I helped you so you wouldn't help me back, you do nice things for me with nothing in return, so now it is my turn."

"Fine." he agreed to easily but maybe that was just the way he acted.

We walked outside and I saw his bike, "NO! No, no, no." I said.

"This is the only way you can get there unless you walk." he was right, we don't have a car.

"Then I will walk." I started to walk in that direction.

He grabbed my arm and turned me around, "Don't walk please I will go really slow."

I narrowed my eyes at him and said, "If you go fast I will kill you when we get off of it." He laughed.

"Okay lets go before we are late."He said.

I got on the bike hesitantly, it felt weird with high heels on. He started it up and I wrapped my arms around his waist and buried my face in his back, "Relax, I haven't even drove yet."

"Just go." I mumbled into his jacket, he laughed and started to go slowly.

Once we got on the road he went a little faster. It went all good until I heard motors coming up behind us, "Shit." Hunter mumbled. "Sorry Scar but I have to go fast, kick my ass when we are done, I don't care but I need to keep you safe."

I felt like he went 100 miles an hour, I screamed so loud my throat hurt. I stopped after about 5 seconds and closed my eyes. I heard laughs from behind us. I turned around and saw the people that interrupted us the other day at the park following us.

Hunter pulled over and I didn't understand why until I looked around and saw that we were here. But The people that were following us were also there. "Hunter-" I began but he cut me off.

"Shh, I will get us out of this just don't speak." I listened to him and hid behind him.

"Hunter what are you doing at a church? Trying to get on God's good side, try to forget your sins?" The leader asked.

"Please leave it is my grandpa's funeral for Christ's sake." Hunter begged.

"Fine but you can't get rid off us that easily."

I felt someones hand go over my mouth and another pair grab my feet. I tried to kick my way out but I wasn't strong enough, I tried to scream but they were muffled. Hunter was grabbed by three guys and and the leader constantly punched him in the gut then in the face and repeat.

I screamed and cried out for some one to come, but no one could hear.

They dragged me to the bikes and set me on one of the bikes, my mouth now duct taped and hands tied together.

I began to cry, great so this is what happens when I try to come to a funeral.

I looked over at Hunter and saw that he was on the floor and the other guys were walking to us. I managed to all off the bike and scratch up my arms, but I also untied my hands and ripped off the duct tape. I ran for Hunter and dialed 911. The people on the bikes were just leaving when the police showed up.

I was crying, "Hunter! Hunter wake up!" I yelled. The police were arresting the boys so they weren't worried about me.

I slapped him hard and he didn't respond. His eye was black and his lip was cut. I looked back at his lips and they were still full, even though there was a slight cut in them. I leaned down and connected my lips with his. He woke up and kissed me back, he wrapped his arms around my waist and put me on top of him. I pulled away, "Are you okay?" I asked.

"Yes, are you? Why are you crying?" he asked.

"I'm fine, I was crying because you wouldn't wake up." I said wiping away the tears.

"Well I'm okay now." he said smiling, I got off of him and he tried to get up but winced in pain.

"Your gut hurts doesn't it?" I asked.

"Kind of, but I will be okay just give me a minute." he slowly got up and wrapped his arm around my shoulders, I walked him to the police.

"Sir are you okay?" The officer asked.

"Yes I'm fine. Thank you." Hunter answered.

"You can go back to the funeral now, I'm very sorry this happened to you at a time like this kid." he said, what a nice guy.

We walked inside and the funeral began.
