Eon and the others were at the point of sheer force.
Honestly, Eon hated to admit it, but there was practically nothing he could do to help now except helping Cobalt find the fake staff, which wasn't much. Horus had hidden it as well as possible, so it was hard for Cobalt to pinpoint the exact location where the staff was. It could have been anywhere.
But Cobalt said, "It's nearby. Search every dark room."
They were in Horus' home. It was almost impossible to see, because Horus hastily extinguished the candles all around the rooms. None of them had a match or anything like that to light them.
They were in the kitchen. There were a lot of drawers all around the room that held wooden silverware and plates, and most of the drawers had a spider or two hidden in the corners in webs.
"Damn," Cobalt said. "How long would it have taken Horus to make all of this? This would take... what, decades for him to make on his own? It's hard to believe this. Did he come at the same time as us?
"He couldn't have," Eon speculated. "There are bugs in some of the drawers, and the hinges on the doors are rusted up. He found this house. There's no way he could have been on this mountain that long and had wanted to go 'home'."
It was true. Horus had his big speech about taking out the Warring Three, and said that his partner was coming back to prove he was telling the truth. He had no intention of fighting Herin or any of the others, but Eon still didn't trust him. Something about Horus scared Eon. Made him feel lowly and unneeded...
"I found it!" Cobalt exclaimed, as he flung a closet door open, and amidst a cluster of rotted jackets and muddy boots, was the fake staff that had given them so much trouble. Eon looked at the staff, and immediately knew that it wasn't real.
"No good. Can you see where the real one is? I need to go pee really bad..."
Cobalt shifted. "I'll see. It should be clearer now." Cobalt shut his eyes for an instant and opened them again.
"We've got to tell Herin," he gasped, and ran through the hallway for the front door.
"Wait!" Eon called, and started after him. Cobalt was sprinting, so it took all of Eon's strength (which wasn't much because he was still recovering from his fall) to keep a bit of distance with Cobalt. They bolted out of the home and ran into a shocked Herin and Horus, who were having a bit of a verbal feud.
Cobalt held up his fight index finger for a moment, and after he caught his breath, said: "Ursa has the staff."
Herin gaped and Horus cursed.
"And he's coming here. No doubt as backup for Horus." Without warning, energy blasted from Cobalt's palms and slammed into Horus with deafening force. The trees shook and an explosion of sound resonated off the side of the mountain. Horus was knocked to the ground and fell unconscious.
"What the hell was that?!" Herin bellowed. "You could've killed him! If you did, we might never be able to find Elipse!"
"You believe his crap?" Cobalt yelled back. "He'll manipulate us, just like he did with Ursa and Scarlett."
"Excuse me?" Herin said, confused.
Cobalt groaned. "Okay, I never said that. But, even if he was telling the truth, we've gotta see this for ourselves before even believing it. Horus is dangerous, a liar, and a manipulator. Never believe before you see, Herin. It can sometimes lead you down a wrong path."
"How do you know him, Cobalt? Tell me that. Where were you before we met you in the village?"
Cobalt gave an equal gaze to Herin.
