At about 3:00 in the morning, a loud thump woke Hannibal. Alarmed, he grabbed the scalpel off his nightstand and clenched it tightly in his hand. He got out of bed and cautiously opened the bedroom door. There was no move to attack him, but he heard footsteps on the stairs. Hannibal flicked on the hall light in time to see a head of black curls disappear down the stairs. Hannibal had forgotten that Will sleepwalks. Quickly, he pocketed the scalpel and went downstairs after Will.
Hannibal stood on the bottom stair and looked around. He didn't see Will anywhere, but then he heard the back door slam shut. Will had only been his house for two days and already knew Hannibal's floor plan in his sleep!
Hannibal took off after Will, grabbing his coat and shoes on the way out. He saw Will walk into the woods that bordered Hannibal's backyard. Hannibal followed him, but he lost him quickly in the dense underbrush.
"Will?" Hannibal called. Will didn't answer him. Cursing under his breath, Hannibal roamed around the forest, calling Will's name. About fifteen minutes later, Hannibal stumbled across the large rock formation the town's people had named Widow's Drop. He called for Will again.
"Hannibal?" Will asked.
Hannibal looked around and finally spotted Will sitting on top of Widow's Drop, bathed in moonlight. "What are you doing up there? How did you even get up there?" Hannibal asked.
"Honestly, I have no idea," Will told him.
"Can you get down?" Hannibal asked.
Will stood up and looked around. "Um, yeah, I think so. Just give me a minute," he said and disappeared from Hannibal's view. A few minutes later, Hannibal heard a grunt and then a large thump.
"Will, are you alright?" Hannibal asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Will groaned. A few seconds later, Will came back into view, rubbing his back. Will looked at Hannibal. "Do not, I repeat, do not fall off a cliff face and land on your back in a sea of brambles," he said and winced as he pulled a thorn out of his back. Hannibal just smiled and shook his head, leading the way back to the house.
