When Will woke up, he found that he was in a hospital bed. He tried to move, but his limbs felt like weights. He groaned. He looked over and noticed that Hannibal was sitting in a chair next to his bed. Then he heard footsteps coming from the direction of the open door. Will looked over and saw a doctor walk into the room. The man waved and smiled.

“Hello, Mr. Graham. I’m Doctor Smith,” the man said.

“Please, call me Will,” Will told him, his voice raspy.

“Nice to meet you, Will,” Doctor Smith said.

“How long has Hannibal been here?” Will asked.

“He’s been here as long as you have,” the doctor said.

“Really?” Will asked, surprised. The doctor nodded in response. “How long do I have to be here?” Will asked.

“Well, the knife that was thrust into your side nicked your kidney, but I stitched it up and it should be fine. You’re pretty much here until I can make sure that the wound won’t get infected and that should only be a couple of days,” Doctor Smith said.

Will nodded and watched as a nurse came in and Doctor Smith left. His eyes slowly closed and Will fell back into the dreamless void of medicated sleep.
