Pesky Poultry

At my lair I have some chooks,

Nothing like you’ve read in books!

They are quick-change comedians,

They hide like chameleons,

When you meet them you think they’ve gone crook!

You may think their brains are the size of a pea,

Their eyes are merely as innocent as could be,

But if you study them closely,

And examine them carefully,

You’ll find them guilty of startling crimes, you see?

They have an unusual gift of the gab,

And are marvelously exceptional at the smash-and-grab!

If you found craters in your lawn

And found they escaped by dawn

But the very next day they were asleep in their bed (or lab).

You would instantly recall what I warned you,

But still it would likely alarm you,

It’s those inconspicuous,

Simply mischievous,

Poultry that can always surprise you!

The poem/limerick, Pesky Poultry, is about 4 chickens that are known for mischief making and crimes but have never really been caught doing it. But since the human persona owns them (in a way that the chickens don’t particularly know about; they just think they’re friends (which they are really) so they tell her all the secrets) the girl has found out all the possible secrets to them that she doesn’t plan on telling anyone but merely warns everyone of what they could do (not telling why or how or anything). The theme is kind of a warning that things aren’t all they seem! Don’t judge a book by its cover!!! J the similes in it for example ‘hide like chameleons’  shows that they can be much more but gives you a feeling that you know what she means.
