"Mind your language please."
I look up at the person I just bumped into. What a shit. That person is wearing a blazer. I couldn't help but sigh. Why does it have to be a teacher? I am silently debating with my inner self about having another cursing session inside my head. Okay, calm down, tiger. Maybe if I try to look all cute and innocent... Ah, I doubt she would think of me as innocent after that cursing show in front of her just now. Whatever... Somehow I find myself straighten my clothes before pulling out the best puppy eyes I can make.
"I'm sorry, miss..."
I stopped to look at the tall teacher in front of me. Scanning for a name tag... Nope, couldn't find one.
"Elen Summer, your new English teacher.", she introduced herself.
"Right... We have a new English teacher. Again, I apologize for my rudeness, Miss Summer.", I smile bitterly at the blonde.
The teacher, on the other hand, merely hum at me. Okay, rudeness detected!
"Yeah, whatever. What's your name?"
Without realizing it, my brows furrowed at the attitude that comes with the question. Eh... aren't I'm the one who should play the rude girl role? I mean, I'm not proud of it but, hello? I just had a cursing session in front of you, why are you the one being all rude and defensive? Once again, I sighed.
"My name is Kylie Bishop."
Miss Summer remind silent for a moment. All the gears in her head are working as fast as they can, thinking so hard about... Honestly, I couldn't even figure out what the teacher is thinking about.
The tall blonde finally break the silence with a sudden smirk.
"You just got yourself detention. Meet me here after school. Don't try to escape."
What the...Okay, maybe I was being rude and all... I said some words I wasn't supposed to say but detention, really? Can this day become even worse?
For a moment, I just stand there with my mouth hanging. Seriously, I'm speechless. Miss Summer rolled her eyes at my overly dramatic reaction. This woman is clearly annoyed at me.
"Off to your break, Miss Bishop."
The teacher said before leaving me alone in the empty classroom. Mom would be mad at me if she found out about this detention... Sighing once again. I decided that all the trouble going to the cafeteria with a hurting leg are not worth it and so I pull out my phone from my pocket.
Nia, my leg hurt like hell 🤕 😩
I texted the little cheerleader, not so long after that, my phone started ringing. Without noticing it, I found myself smiling. Sliding my phone screen to answer the call and put the phone close to my ear.
'You're okay, buddy?', a husky voice from the other side of the line asked.
It doesn't take lots of thinking for me to guess who that is.
"Hmm... I'm fine, Ryan. Are the others with you?"
Ryan Johnson, one of my elementary friends that still stick around me till today. He is very talented in theatre. Great actor yet in real life is quite a quiet man. Ryan always believes that action speaks louder than words, he often proves himself with his action instead of words.
'Yo, yo, Ky! What's up?' a high pitched and energetic voice can be heard from the other side of the line.
Must be Joey, he is Ryan's boyfriend. A complete opposite of Ryan. Joey is a nice guy but sometimes... He has a big mouth. Tho you can always count on him to get the invitation to any party, a very bubbly and talkative dude.
'Guys, please... Give her space, okay? Hey, Ky, do you want me to get you some food?', this time it's a soft and small voice. Obviously, my cute friend, Bunny.
She's a bit like Ryan, doesn't really like to talk much. The petite girl would prefer sticking her nose inside a book than talking to a human being. A very caring girl, she is like the mom in our group? Yeah, sounds weird but that's exactly what she is... Or maybe you can call her a walking pharmacy? Not that she does drugs but she always has some kind of medicine or a tiny first aids kit with her.
I'm not sure if it's because she is clumsy or what. Oh, yeah, she is a writer. On Wattpad. I never read what she wrote tho. Yes, I'm indeed a great friend.
"I would love that, B. My usual, ok-"
'Bitch, give me my phone back!! Oh, you're going to stand up? That's not fair! Just because you're taller than-"
Chuckling at Nia's loud complaint, I found myself slowly leaning my body toward the nearest desk, trying to reduce the burden of having to stand up with my hurting leg.
'Ky, taco and fruit salad, right? I'll be on my way.', Tia said before quickly ended the phone call. I think someone is feeling guilty for stepping on my feet with her fucking stilettos... Maybe I can convince her to buy me some coffee tomorrow.
What? An eye for an eye, ladies.
"Miss Bishop.", someone call for me.
I look up at the one who called for me, there she is. Miss Elen Summer. For a few seconds, our eyes, locked with each other. I'm waiting patiently for the teacher to say something. Instead, she merely stares at me without saying anything.
Her poker face makes it hard for me to guess what she is thinking. It took a while before Miss Summer finally clears her throat to say something.
"Let make a deal. You don't have to go to your detention today instead you would help me clean my new office this Sunday, is that alright with you? Or do you prefer the detention?"
Wait... Is that an accent? I swear she sounds a bit like French there... Oh, hold up. Hell no!!! Anything but detention.
Mother would kill me if she found out I got myself detention. At least I can pretend I'm doing something right when I come up to school and help Miss Summer this Sunday.
"No, miss. I'll help you out this Sunday? At what time would you be expecting me?"
