Allison's Tale

Chapter 2

The loud ding! echoed in the walls, waking Theo. He trotted out through the open doorway and walked to Sarah, who sat on a couch.

She let out a sigh and stroked Theo with her hand. The large dog sat down, wagging his tail. Sarah then sat and clipped a leash on Theo's collar, walking out of the house with Theo behind her.

In the other room, Allison awoke, stretching her tiny paws. She flexed her short claws and rolled on her back, pawing and batting the air. She then let out a squeaky yawn, almost like a newborn mouse.

Tori sat up and watched the small kitten with large round yellow eyes. She let out a screech to tell Allison she was awake. Allison's gaze flicked up to Tori and she mewed quietly, "Good morning, Tori! How was your first sleep here?" Allison sat down, staring back at Tori with her icy blue eyes.

"Just fine, thanks. It was quite comfy up here." Tori squeaked, slapping her hands down on the log as if to shift it.

"How's your log?" Allison meowed softly.

"Oh you mean Loggy? Yeah, he's fine." Tori said, patting the log.

"Loggy? Nice name!" Allison laughed, falling forward and face-planting on the carpeted floor and letting a muffled laugh escape her mouth.

"Hey! Loggy hears you!" Tori screeched, clapping her hands over two tiny holes she must've drilled onto Loggy. "He has good ears," Tori added mysteriously, nodding her head as if to agree with herself.

Allison's ears flattened back and she mewed, "Yeah... bye Loggy! Bye Tori!" She then scampered from the room, slipping due to her clumsy paws. Tori laughed and it echoed around the spacious room.

Tori slapped Loggy as if to high-five him. She then hopped off and ran out of the room. She ran to a small container, near Allison's food bowl, and snatched a blue beetle from it. She stuffed it in her mouth and a loud crunching sound followed her chewing.

Allison winced in disgust. She looked at her food and she squeaked with surprise as they popped into large blue beetles. She shook her head and blinked in shock. The beetles disappeared. She sighed in relief but then she realized Theo wasn't there. She looked around frantically. "Where is Theo?" Allison meowed in panic.

"I-" crunch "-think he-" crunch "-left early-" crunch "-with Sarah." Tori murmured, munching on a red beetle. Allison flinched and nodded slowly, letting Tori know she heard her.

"But the big question is," Allison muttered to herself. "Where?"

Tori leaped down, holding another beetle. "Want to try one?" Tori offered. Allison hissed and the fur on her back raised in alarm.

"Ok, jeez." Tori said, stuffing it in her mouth hungrily. She chewed it and swallowed it down. Allison gagged. Ding! Allison and Tori's gaze shot to the front door. Theo walked forward, a thick string tied to his blue collar.

Sarah followed behind, carrying another cage. But this time, it was transparent. A small rodent sat inside. It had huge beady orange eyes and a long tail. It had a black and white striped tail and it's fur was black. It's belly fur, paws and face-mask were white. Allison stared at the small, odd creature.

"This is Oreo! She is a sugar glider from Australia!" Sarah said. The small rodent, Oreo, seemed very energetic and playful. She skipped and hopped around, chittering and squeaking. She climbed up a small ladder and spread her small "arm flaps" and glided down, landing gracefully on the floor of the cage. She let out a small squeal.

"Isn't she cute?" Sarah cooed. She opened the cage and stroked the small creature. Oreo began to let out a purr of delight. Sarah sighed softly and pulled her hand out of Oreo's cage. Allison felt a snarl rise from her throat.

She bit her tongue and walked away quickly before she erupted. Theo followed. Theo and Allison walked to their room to see Tori, banging on a large, tall cage near the window. She was howling in rage. "When did this get here? I swear I just fell asleep and, pop! There it was!" Tori snarled.

"It's the new rodent, Oreo! I personally think you were fine but now this sugar glider is taking Sarah away! She's too cute." Allison growled.
