i don't remember day one
or day two
or any other day of that trip
except six
it doesn't matter how hard
i try to forget
i can't
'get up'
i looked up lazily
'we are going for a picnic' pari held a basket in one hand
'oh, are we?' i teased
'yes caleb, we are'
she looked so cute in her little shorts and floppy hat
i wanted to kiss her
i always wanted to kiss her
'alright then' i smiled
we ended up at some abandoned creek
where she pulled me into
the water without warning
and later
after we had splashed around like kids
when i asked her if
she knew the way back home
she shook her head and shrugged
'i was being spontaneous'
i watched the sunlight fall
on her wet locks
as she took a bite of a sandwich
and
rambled animatedly
i had this feeling in my gut
which i couldn't ignore
when we returned
i went to my room
opened my underwear drawer
took out a small box
and slipped it into my pocket
[picture of pari attached in a floppy hat because why not]
