sooyoung kept looking at her phone over and over in between her customers' orders. it was the same thing every minute. "SOOYOUNG WHERE ARE YOU?" or "I NEED MY GIRLFRIEND!" she was so done with it. but what was she supposed to do? dohwan was the only person she truly had after thinking that she lost everything. she just couldn't afford to lose someone so close to her.
"is it him again?" joohyun said after there were no customers. her eyes were filled with disgust as she hated the mere idea that someone was practically abusing her friend.
"yeah," the girl responded with a sigh. "can't he just realize that i need space?" she looked as if she was ready hit anything. her phone was tightly gripped in her fingers, tears were ready to fall.
"so he's being controlling?" joohyun brought up, leaning closer to her desk as her curiosity about the younger girl rose.
"no! no!! he's not being controlling!! he's just..." sooyoung denied. her boyfriend was surely not a bad person. was he?
"sooyoung... can you talk to him about this? he's showing toxic behavior."
"it's not toxic!! it's just..." she automatically denied, getting defensive and raising her voice.
"can you talk to him though?"
"no..."
"then he's toxic!! you need to break up with him!!"
"i can't... he's the only person i have left."
"that's exactly why i wanted to bring you along to this party," joohyun said as she held onto sooyoung's hand and dragged her to her personal office. "look... this party we're going to is my girlfriend's. she's different from me.. so you can meet a bunch of people there. talk to them, make new friends."
"i'll try... but girlfriend? how come you never told me about her?" sooyoung said with a laugh as she playfully hit the girl's shoulder.
joohyun had always been a soft individual. how different could her girlfriend be?
"because she's just different," the older girl laughed, "plus her hair changed before mine!! i didn't know that i liked her!!"
"your hair changed? what do you mean?"
"no way... you don't know about that?"
sooyoung simply shook her head. what could joohyun be talking about?
"when you start to like someone, the tip of your hair changes to the color of their hair. for instance, your hair is brown and mine is," she paused, "well a lighter brown. if i liked you, my hair's tips would turn into your hair color."
"can't you just dye it back?"
"well, yes and no. you can dye it, but it would go back to the other person's hair color after a while. the more time you like them, the more your hair color will turn into theirs. it'll stop after you confess to each other and kiss. if you stop liking each other though, your hair starts growing from the roots."
"that's... weird..."
"yeah.. you must have had it with dohwan though. right?"
"no? i think that i would've noticed though... his hair's black..."
"well... i think you know what that means."
"i never loved him. i guess he never loved me either. his hair never changed colors, for sure. wait, they... they actually changed recently. it became a lighter brown compared to my hair.. so..."
all of the possible thoughts began to race in her mind. there was no way he could have another girlfriend or anyone else in his life, right? he must have gotten his hair dyed just for fun, right?
"he loves someone else. he has a side-chick," joohyun immediately concluded. she was knowledgeable with these things, especially when she knows that she sees a cheater.
sooyoung just sighed in deep frustration. she couldn't cry— she shouldn't. she will not cry.
"hey, it's okay. he doesn't deserve you. you don't deserve this pain and the constant on-and-off behavior he exhibits," joohyun said as she rubbed sooyoung's shoulder, comforting the girl that was about to break into tears.
"i just thought that he could change and he didn't! he always talked about sex and how pretty i was.. how could i have never noticed that he was such a bad person?" sooyoung replied, tears coming out of her eyes. the memories just kept popping up in her mind. he always brought along his friends— and a girl. the girl seemed so close to him, but she didn't pay much attention to it as she believed that he truly loved her. dohwan would constantly put his arm around her and hold her hands. how could she have never noticed? how could she have put up with him controlling her life?
"look, you should break up with him, obviously. i hope that this party can help you cheer up. maybe you can meet someone new there to keep your mind off of him. you just deserve the best, sooyoung. but, if you want some time to rest, you should rest."
"no, i'm fine. i'll go to the party. i'll get my mind off this stupid jerk."

hopefully this is long enough !!
