Ann's P.O.V

I pull my keys out of my pocket and fidget to find my house key.
"Maybe I should of done what Dad did and marked my house key, too," I complain quietly to myself.
I finally find it and unlock the front door, shoving my keys back into my pocket and dropping my bags and backpack upon passing the threshold.
I sigh.
"I'm home!" I yell into what seems to be an empty house.
I honestly didn't expect a reply, but I hear a scuffle in the kitchen and then I see Sumo barreling towards me.
I drop to my knees and take his loving attack head on, getting covered in slobber.
"Hey, boy! Did'ya miss me?" I ask him. He jumps around me in response.
I smile and stand up, picking my bags up to take them upstairs. Sumo kneeds at my leg, making me turn around.
"What is it, bub? Wanna come up with me?"
Dad didn't really like Sumo going up and down the stairs due to his size, but since I hadn't seen Sumo in a year, I don't think Dad really has a say right now.
"Come on, bub. You can come up with me!"
Sumo barks and follows me upstairs to my room.
I open up my door and he runs to my bed, flopping onto it.
I smile and drop my bags next to my bed as I take in the familiar scenery that is my room. The pink rose wallpaper, the low light of my multi-color fairy lights, the glow of my salt rock lamp. Dad must have set up my room for my return.
I fall onto my bed with Sumo and stroke his fur. It felt so nice to be home. I just wish Dad had been here for my arrival. Our plan was for him to pick me up from the airport, but sadly, he didn't show up. I had to take a cab with the leftover money I had from my study trip.
He probably had an emergency case come up at the DPD...
Sumo notices my sadness and he paws my leg and pants, making me smile.
"You wanna stay here, bub?" I'm gonna go find Dad."
He makes himself comfortable and closes his eyes. I jump off my bed and fix up my light pink and yellow comforter before starting to unpack and put away my stuff.
I then go downstairs and grab Sumo's food bowl. I admire it, remembering when Dad and I made it for him before I left for school in Canada. It was light blue with Sumo written in big bulky black lettering. I bring the bowl over to the counter and set it down, making my way to the cabinet to grab his food.
I open up the door and turn the light on to see it almost empty except for a few cans and three full bags of dog food. I groan, realizing I'll have to ask Dad for money to go shopping later this evening. I struggle, but successfully pick up one of the full bags of dog food and carry it over to the counter, setting it on the floor. I rip the top off and take a scoop from the drawer next to me and scoop some food into the bowl.
I reseal the bag, shut the light off and close the door to the cabinet. I head upstairs and put the food in the hall against the wall facing my room so Sumo could eat when he wanted. We had an automatic water dispenser in our upstairs bathroom for him, even though he rarely used it, we kept it up here for the rare chance of him being upstairs. I check in the bathroom to make sure it is working, and fill it up with extra water just in case.
I go into my room and am greeted by a yawn from Sumo.
I grab my phone and charger and shove them both into my bag. I pull my keys out from my pocket and go over to my bed. I give Sumo a kiss on the head.
"I'll be back, bubba, okay? You be a good boy and watch over the house."
Sumo yawns again and lays on his back. I give his tummy a quick rub before leaving the room. I make sure the doors to my room and the bathroom are open, as well as the lights on in each and walk downstairs. I grab my Detroit Police AccessPass, or as they call it, my DPA, off the counter by the door and put it in my bag. I then depart, locking the door. A bus pulls up and I race across the street to it. I board and sit next to a little girl and her father. The little girl smiles and shows me her game on her tablet.
"Candy!" She chimes.
I giggle and they keep me company until my stop. I thank the father for letting me chat and hop off the bus.
The DPD, Detroit Police Department. The place I was practically raised at. My second home. After loosing my mother and older brother, Dad put work ahead of a lot, but not me. He always brought me to work, and let me watch him at his desk. During field work, he'd leave me with Captain Fowler, his boss. He would always buy me a milkshake and food when he watched me as a little girl. As I got older, he started teaching me about deviant androids and he even taught me some physical defense. For my 18th birthday, he gave me pepper spray. My 19th was a physical combat subscription with multiple DVDs from the program. My 20th, I was away in Canada, but he still sent me my present to my dorm. It was my DPA. Allowing me access anytime I wish into the department. I ended up sending it to Dad so I wouldn't lose it.
I walk up to the main entrance and open the large door. As I step in, I take in the cool air and the familiar smell of hot coffee. The lady behind the desk smiles at me as I walk up.
"You're Anderson's daughter, right?" she asks.
I smile and nod.
"He told me we would probably be expecting you. Go ahead and go through to his desk. He may be in a meeting right now, but he says you'll know what to do."
I thank her and walk into the office. Not many officers are in, but that's probably because of all the deviant cases I've been hearing about. Androids finding human emotion within themselves, and trying to break through the programming set in them.
Honestly, I was all for it. Dad on the other hand, not so much. After loosing Cole to surgery by an Android, Dad didn't think highly about them at all..
I walk over to his desk and set my bag down. I notice a sticky note on the keyboard. I pick it up and read it.
