Chapter Thirty-Nine: The Southern Isles

The ships sailed towards their next destination, surely keeping their distance from the looming titian. His massive spikes slicing through the surface of the ocean as he moved forward. They’ve been sailing for most of the day and the sun was starting to set, welcoming the cool night. Kristoff as anxious as he was, knew deep down what was going to happen to the Southern isles and shuddered remembering what happened to westleton.

“It’s going to be alright lad.” Jonathan said as he approached the young man, he’s attention on his mighty friend swimming ahead of them. Kristoff exhaled in disbelief as he looked at the castle guard.

“You’ve seen what he did to westleton Jonathan, what makes you think he won’t cause that kind of destruction there while Anna and Elsa are they’re prisoners?” He asked worriedly. Jonathan stood silent the night still alive in his memory, the side of his friend he has seen many times but seeing him as his true self was a living nightmare. A part of him believed that he enjoyed it, but he knew that Mathias was removing any threats that could potentially harm the royal family.

“I have a feeling that he won’t, not at least till he’s sure that Queen Elsa and Princess Anna are out of harm's way. He cares about them too much to do anything reckless at the moment.” Jonathan finally replied. He noticed Mathias take a dive within the water, his tail rose above the sea before completely submerging within a massive splash. Jonathan was utterly confused till he spotted land in the horizon, The Southern Isles.

It wasn’t long till they reached shore, all the men were ready to storm into the palace but Mathias was missing among them. Jonathan looked at the horizon hoping to see the massive titan rise from the ocean.

“Does anyone have any clothes to spare?!” a voiced called shocking the old man as he turned to see Mathias standing there with his arms crossed over his bare chest. Realizing why he asked he quickly turned toward the men who were staring at the man in confusion.

“You heard the lad, get him some clothes!” He ordered and the men immediately scurried about, for fear of angering the head guard or Mathias. It wasn’t much but Mathias was glad to be at least wearing pants. He didn’t mind not wearing any top clothing for the reason of showing off the many scars on his body as a sign of intimidation to his enemies. To let them know that he has been through many battles and hell and will still be victorious. He stood among a circle of men next to Jonathan as he told his plan to search the castle.

“What if they aren’t here and are in the Northern Isles?” one of the men asked and Jonathan looked at Mathias to see his reaction but raised a brow when the taller man smirked.

“They aren’t at the northern isles, believe me i know. That was the second place i went to during my search. Rest assured the people of Arendelle won’t need to worry about them anymore.” Mathias looked around at the group as they stared at him wide eyed  knowing what he did. Kristoff coughed to get Mathias’ attention along with the group.

“You said the Northern Isles was the second place you went to, where did you originally go after you left Arendelle?” He asked and Mathias flared hot air through his nose as his answer and signaled Jonathan to continue. After the plan was explained Mathias soon realized that his old friend’s plan was risky and would involve plenty of casualties of their men and he didn’t want them in the area for what he had in mind.

“I’ll go in the castle alone.” He said catching his friend off guard as he turned to look at him in shock.

“I’m going in there alone Jonathan, i want you and your men away from that place especially with me being there. But i’ll need you and a small team to be there when the royal sisters come out and get them to safety upon that ridge.” Mathias said pointing up toward the terrain. Kristoff glared toward him not liking the plan one bit, he knew that if one of them were injured they would need help getting out.

“I’ll be going in with you Mathias, and don’t tell me otherwise.” Kristoff told mathias, his eyes burning in determination. Mathias glared back irritated by Kristoff’s false courage but he reasoned with himself that his wife is there and she may need him.

“Alright Kristoff but you better not get in my way or slow me down, i will kill you personally otherwise.” Mathias said and the group went completely silent, even when Mathias got up to walk away they dared not to speak a word to him.

The streets were quiet, too quiet for mathias’s liking as he looked around. To him it seemed too easy, they haven’t seen a single guard on patrol. He looked up and noticed that it was still early in the morning, which would give them the advantage of getting in the castle unnoticed. The castle itself looked nothing like the one in Arendelle, it looked old with overgrowth taking over the walls surrounding the worn down castle. Kristoff quickly pulled Mathias aside in the nearest ally and both went completely silent as a guard walked by.

“Knew it, i knew it was too good to be true to get in so easily.” Mathias whispered to Kristoff and started to move toward the castle once the guard was gone. There were no other guards at the gate and it was surprisingly open. Mathias was getting impatient with the sneaking around and barged through the gates with Kristoff in tow. In the yard was an army of guards startled by their entrance. All the blood drained from Kristoff's face as he stood there but noticed Mathias smiled as he cracked his knuckles.

“Good morning gentlemen my name is Mathias and this here is Kristoff, would any of you mind to tell me where Prince Hans is? It’s been a really long night for us so please don’t waste our time. You can tell me where he is and where he’s keeping the Queen and Princess of Arendelle and i’ll spare all of you.” Mathias said still keeping his smile. The guards drew out their swords and crossbows surrounding the two men.

“Please tell me that you have a plan.” Kristoff said looking around at the guards. They were at a disadvantage in numbers and neither of them had weapons making them defenseless. Mathias’s smile broadened looking around him, he seemed almost excited like a child in a candy shop. Through the back of his shirt, Kristoff noticed a slight blue glow illuminating and he began to sweat knowing that Mathias already had his plan set.

“You two are coming with us!” One of the guards said slowly approaching them with a sword drawn. Everything seemed to happen in slow motion as Mathias took a deep breath and released the blue fire built within him. Everything went into chaos as guards were set a flame, running around in agony till they dropped to the ground consumed by the burning flames. Arrows flew in every direction a few hitting Mathias in his leg and shoulder but he kept up his assault till the entire yard was consumed in flames. The last few remaining guards cried out in agony before they became silent. Kristoff looked around in fright before watching Mathias pull out the arrows from his leg and left shoulder.

“Now since that’s taken care of let’s find Anna and Elsa before things get out of hand.” Mathias said approaching the entrance of the castle. Kristoff stood there for a second before running after the man. As Kristoff entered the building he spotted Mathias holding one of the servants up by the collar of his shirt.

“Do you know where they keep their prisoners?” Mathias asked the frightened young man. He shook his head and Mathias let him down but held his grip.

“The dungeon, second staircase down on the left. Prince Hans went down there to visit  the two prisoners he brought in!” the man stammered and Mathias let him go.

“At least someone was croppitive.” He said to Kristoff and walked down the hall toward the dungeon. Few guards tried to stop them to no avail till they stopped at the staircase leading down to the dungeon. Both men looked at each other knowing that more men will be down there.

“Are you ready?” Mathias asked him, and Kristoff’s eyes narrowed in determination knowing that he was close to his beloved wife.

“Let’s go.” Kristoff said and they rushed down the stairs to greet the guards waiting for them as the sounds of battle echoed up the stairs.
