Layla's POV

It felt like hours that we were connected in this intimate embrace, but in reality only seconds had passed.

I pulled back when oxygen became a necessity and looked deep into John's eyes. They were as turbulent as my own probably were and we understood and accepted the bond we knew has been forming from the first time we set our eyes on each other in that crowded square of my hometown.

The ambience needed no disturbance with words but I needed to let John know what this meant to me.

"Thank you, for being there for me every step of the way. I never knew kindness until I met you, back home I was treated as a slave and for a long time I believed the words said to me and the actions directed towards me were justified." I said looking deep into his eyes.

John let out a growl to show his displeasure saying," what those people did to you is the perfect example of injustice and I wish I could go back right now and smack your family in the face, even the towns people for allowing such treatment to be exhibited in their own hometown. I promise to protect you from people like that Layla, no one deserves to be treated like a slave." He said and lowerd his head.

My hand found his in the grass, tangling our fingers together, urging him to look at me as I give him a soft smile.

"I know that now." Is all I said with warmth in my eyes for this beautiful man in front of me.

We became quiet once more looking at the natural beauty around us and enjoying the sounds of the waterfall flowing and the birds chirping.

A while later John dejectedly sighed and whispered as if not to disturb the peace, " We should go, it's getting late and we still have half an hour's flight to get back to the school."

"Half an hour ? We flew that long ?" I questioned looking to Dakota.

She nodded her big head and whispered to me aslo caught in the peace of our surroundings, "You were so troubled by your thoughts you didn't even notice." She said with a sad lilt to her voice.

Just the mention of those thoughts made my mood go glum.

"I want to know everything that happened with my parents John. I need to know and we need help to beat Krinos." I said with a determined voice.

After John said he'll help me in any way he can, we took off for the journey back to the school.

When we landed it was late afternoon and my stomach started to grumble, reminding me that I hadn't eaten breakfast. I blushed looking to John who was pretending he didn't notice but I saw the smirk he was trying to hide and without any remorse, jabbed him in the side.

He let out a huff and playfully glared at me, making me laugh at his disgruntled expression.

"Already domestically abusing me and we just started this relationship." He muttered but I was caught on his last word.

"Relationship ? I don't remember you asking me to be your girlfriend, do you ?" I asked with a raised brow but on the inside I was hyperventilating.

"Well I thought we established that with the very heated kiss if you don't remember?" He jabbed back smirking when I blushed furiously.

I was very successfully impersonating a fish at the moment, opening and closing my mouth, trying and failing to think of a smart comment.

"I give up. Your not being very romantic you know ? I've never been in a relationship before and your off to a rough start buddy." I said giving him a pointed look letting a pout slip on my lips.

His eyes softened all the way only momentarily getting caught on my lips.

"I'm sorry. I just didn't want to make you uncomfortable and pressure you. I'll give you chocolates and roses, the whole shebang, and ask you nicely when you least expect it." He said with a gleam in his eyes.

We reached the hall and John pulled me to him giving me another heated kiss, this one soft and tender conveying all his emotions to me.

He pulled away and we looked at each other, neither wanting to let go and enter reality once again.

My stomach gave a protesting groan again and I blushed while breaking the hold he had on me and speed walking to the food line, John laughing and following behind me.

We gathered our food and moved to the fire table where the boys were already inhaling their food without chewing.

I sat across from Matt with a look of pure horror on my face as he stuffed a whole chicken drumstick in his mouth and it came out completely free of meat.

John cleared his throat and all three guys looked up and swallowed seeing the look on my face.

I looked at John traumatized.

He just shrugged and thankfully cut his food into reasonable pieces, chewing with a closed mouth like a true gentleman.

The guys got the picture and, like they haven't used a knife and fork in years, started to eat less like cavemen.

After dinner John walked me to my room.

"I know someone who can help with getting information." He started.

I looked at him hopefully and he continued, "He's a wizard, not the one you saw at the choosing ceremony, an old friend of my father's. I'll send for him tonight and we can talk to him tomorrow."

"Thank you John. You don't know how much this means to me. Maybe I'll finally learn more about my past." I said looking to John with more hope simmering in my eyes.

He leaned forward and kissed my forehead before leaning his own on mine.

He had a serious expression that commanded my attention.

"I'll always be here for you and that counts for anytime of the day , week , month or year Layla." He said looking me in the eyes, foreheads still pressed together.

Emotions clogged my throat and I just pulled him closer to me attaching my lips to his is a passionate embrace.

After a few moments we released each other panting.

We reluctantly said out goodnights and he left down the hall.

Tomorrow might clear up my past and determine my future and I was ready.
