Ashlynn and I walked side by side through the trees. It's still very strange to call the gal with the green cloak by a name but i would get used to it, eventually.
The sun was high in the sky making me think about lunch. I scanned the woods hopping to find some kind of animal, any kind of animal. Blimey! Why was I so hungry?
"Nice moves back there." Ashlynn dragged me from my thoughts about lunch.
"Yeah you too" I told her smiling. I let my thoughts slip back to lunch happily. If only a bunny or a bird or anything would just come out from behind a tree so I could kill it!
As I scoured the forest for food Ashlynn was silent beside me. As the minutes ticked by and tree by tree I saw nothing to eat i began to loose hope.
Trying to distract myself from the thought of food I thought about all the events that had just taken place.
"What are we gunna do if we run into more...contestants?" I asked Ashlynn slowly picking the right words.
"Depends on what they try to do to us." She answered.
"Right so let's say they want to kill us" I said glumly
"Then we make sure they don't and we find their intentions."
"How?" I asked confused.
"If we see them, we take them down without killing them" She smiled.
"Fair enough." I said hesitantly knowing that is not at all how it went last time. The thought still haunted me. It scared me that that is what happened when I let my instincts take over.
We both continued down the path silently as I memorized all the different twists and turns. Ashlynn began humming which was starting to get irritating. It reminded me of my mum and home....two things i didn't want to be thinking about on this trip. I forced a smile trying not to look annoyed. Ashlynn didn't seem to notice and kept humming.
It seemed that hours had passed by when finally there was shuffling in the bushes near by and I looks at Ashlynn confused.
"Get down" I said the words coming out a little bit more demanding than I expected. We both crouch down near the bush.
I puts a silver arrow in my bow, the motion flowing perfectly. I stood up smiling, eying a rabbit in the clearing for a split second before I lets the string of the bow loose shooting the arrow perfectly. The arrow embeds itself directly in the middle of the the rabbits stomach.
Ashlynn begins to peak her head out from the bushes where we were hiding moments before. The expression on her face showed how relieved and excited she was to have something for a meal. inside i was jumping for joy as well.
"Nice." The girl in the green cloak said sounding almost as relieved as i felt.
"why thank you" I said happily, the only thing on my mind was eating that rabbit.
"Shall we stop for the night" Ashlynn asked.
I looked up at the sky, the ponding in my head returning. "Yeah" i said with a sigh of relief. Laying down sounded so wonderful at the moment.
"i'm gunna go get fire wood." Ashlynn said. To tired to really say anything I just gave her a thumbs up. Still all I could think about was eating then sleeping.
Once Ashlynn had gathered some firewood she began to make a fire and started cooking the rabbit. I watched her intrigued. It smelled amazing. My mouth was watering and i wasn't sure which i wanted more, sleep or to eat.
