The earth bathed its surface in the sunlight as the dawn cleared night. A loud silence filled the forest, one so loud you could hear it from miles away.

Deep within its trees, five silhouettes travelled in hurried paces. But unknown to any of them, a sixth followed quite close by. Whether by luck or it's lack thereof, one could never tell.

"We must hurry. This mission should have been through with last week."

A mission, yes. One so secret only the elite had the chance to flash their eyes and open their ears to it.

"Did you get it. Itachi?"

The Uchiha nodded with an emotionless face. He put his hand in his pocket and removed what seemed to look like a small wooden box.

His companions nodded pleased. But just when the leader was about to touch the possession, a shuriken separated them, lightly cutting his fingers.

"Shit. "

He quickened his pace. They took to the trees. Hopping from one branch to the other, dodging the herd of kunai.

"Aaaaaaargh!"

One shinobi broke free, slowing down and turning around. "Go on, I'll stal-" his words were cut short as a shuriken slit his throat.

"Dammit, they have boomershuriken." He cursed.

The boomershuriken is a combination of a boomerang and a shuriken. It is thrown at the left to hit the right. Its attacks are unpredictable. Only a specialist can dodge one.

Unfortunately for them. They weren't.

"Aaaaaarghhh!"

Their leader cursed profanities as their number was decreased to three. "Itachi." He said lowly. The said boy(cause he's a boy) looked at him.

"You are the youngest here. So you have a bigger chance at surviving. Just up ahead is a small abandoned tunnel that leads into a forest within Konoha. Its too tiny for us to fit. But you may be able to. We'll stall them as much as we can so you can make your way there. Carry on the Will of Fire."

The boy reluctantly nodded. He was yet again going to loose another team, even if temporary. But he understood the situation.

"Go!"

He quickened his pace and leaped further away from them. From the distance, he could hear the clash of kunai and a scream.

The sound increased his speed and he moved with a newly found resolve. His eyes narrowed as he reached a dead end.

The earth had caved in and he realised just how small the tunnel was. It seemed that way on the outside but he could tell from how hollow the insides were that it was quite big.

The entrance was the only thing small.

Jumping of the branch, he ran towards it and crawled his way in. It didn't take long for the persecutors to catch up but by that time, he was long gone.

He bent on his knees to catch his breadth. That was a close shave. Now relieved, he took a moment to examine his surroundings. His eyes widened to that of saucers. This place was-...!

A loud noise erupted from his back. They had exploded the entrance. He griped his kunai and glared. There were eight of them. All masked and armed to the teeth.

Their boomershuriken hanging loose on their fingers. 'They were willing to go this far for the box.'

The ground rumbled as the wide vacuum became filled with rocks and earth.

'They even sacrificed their way of escape.'

The group simultaneously cocked their heads to the side and he narrowed his eyes. He hardened his grip on the kunai. His eyes swirled as they turned into a familiar red.

Oh?

It watched from the trees, eager to see how things would play out. It licked its lips as they turned to the side, exposing their neck. It smiled wickedly and descended.

He panted heavily, clutching his bleeding arm. He had only managed this far because of his eyes. His enemies said nothing and only stared unsympathetically through their masks.

They all raised their hands, the jingle of their customized shuriken sent shivers miles away. They leaned back...

...and swung...

..........................................

Silence sung its tune throughout the forest. Even the leaves stopped swaying. The wind had taken a vacation.

He blinked.

They stared.

It growled.

Hu-sa-ka! Hu-sa-ka! Ha! Ha! BLOODY TWELVE!!!
