I woke up feeling his weight on my body. My eyes opened slowly as they adjusted to the sunlit room. Looking down to the sleeping angel before me. His head was on my chest, short puffs of warm air escaping from his plump lips. Arms were strewn over me body, tensing if I moved in the slightest. It was as if he feared I would leave him again. His legs were locked around my own, securing his body against mine.
He mumbled small protest in his sleep as I tried to untangle myself from him. I stopped every so often because I thought he would wake, but I was getting nowhere. I laid back onto my pillow and brought my hand to his unruly curls and began to slowly run my fingers through them. He relaxed under my touch, and I was slowly able to move from under him.
I placed a soft kiss onto his cheek before slipping out from under the covers and tip toeing from the room. I closed the door behind me, careful not to make any noise so he wouldn't wake up. I padded to the upstairs bathroom, brushing my teeth and washing my face. The cool water did a good job at washing the sleep from my eyes, as well as the events of the past few days.
When I was all done I decided to head down to the kitchen, looking through the cupboards until I found bread and some strawberry jam. I put four slices in the toaster and walked to the fridge taking out the orange juice he seemed to be so obsessed with and pouring some into a large glass.
I made a cup of coffee for myself and placed it onto the bar top, along with his juice. The toast popped from the machine, causing me to jump slightly. I put out two plates and spread the butter and jam on each slice, before bringing them to the bar top as well. Walking back over to the sink I began to wash my hands. It felt good that things were slowly returning back to normal.
"Kara?!" his voice sounded hoarse, desperate. I shut off the water turning myself around.
I was about to respond when I heard his footsteps running into the kitchen. He stopped dead in his tracks by the doorway, looking relieved as soon as his eyes met mine. I looked at his bare chest, the way it heaved up and down as if he'd just run a marathon. His boxers hung low on his hips, so his prominent v-lines showed.
"Aiden what's wrong?" panic laced in my voice. He took a moment, just standing by the doorway, looking to me as if it were for the first time.
"I...I thought you left me, again." he looked to the ground, avoiding my gaze.
I grabbed a dish towel and quickly dried off my hands, before walking over to the broken man before me. I cupped his cheek with my hand and forced him to look at me. His bright green eyes that I'd grown to love so much were tainted with sadness and pain. My heart clenched just looking at him, seeing him so worried and frantic.
"I told you yesterday that I would never leave you Aiden." my voice barely above a whisper.
His green eyes met mine for a brief moment, before a frown was placed upon his lips.
"I thought you changed your mind. I woke up and you weren't there." his eyes looked into mine, studying my expression, wondering what was going through my head.
"I'm sorry, you just looked so peaceful I didn't want to wake you. Though you did put up a fight as I was trying to get out of bed." I chuckled softly attempting to lighten the mood, though a frown was still etched onto his face.
I brought my hands to the back of his neck and pulled his lips to mine in a gentle kiss. His hands found their way to my hips, fingers digging into my skin, pulling me closer to him. It was moments like this that I missed. The way his hands felt when they caressed my skin, the way his lips tasted, and the fact that this was easy, almost as if it came naturally to us both.
"I made you a promise Aiden, and I won't break it." I assured him.
I took his larger hand in mine, careful not to touch any of his wounds, and led him around the counter. He sat down in a stool and I on the other. We ate in a comfortable silence.
