Hearing my same old, annoying alarm clock on my phone go off woke my butt right up.
I unlocked my phone, turning it off before checking my recent messages I received over night.
From: Kirah
Probably sleep but I just had to let you know that I got a call saying the polish company will be at the shop at 8:45 to drop off the nail polish! Sorry I'm telling you soooo late, please forgive me? I love you!"Shit." I mumbled.
I don't have to be at work until 9:30, now I have to rush my ass to work since I was receiving a package and no one would be there to sign off.
I hopped out of bed, immediately brushing my teeth, and washing my face.
After taking a shower, I got dressed, did light make up, and did a simple bun on top of my head.
I sprayed on some expensive, Gucci perfume, before checking myself in the mirror. I looked down at my rolex, seeing it was 8:37.
I already knew I was going to be late.
"Bye Nove." I said referring to my, Beagle dog.
I locked the door and rushed to my car.
Making it to my job at 8:56, I noticed the guy getting back into his truck.
"Wait!" I hopped outta my car, running to the truck.
He rolled his eyes before opening the door.
"Are you Tami Rivera?"
"Yes. I'm sorry, I was informed that you would be here early this morning at 8:00. I'm sorry I'm late."
"It's fine ma'am. Sign here."
He handed me the clipboard, I quickly signed it and handed it back to him. He nodded towards his buddy, and he started unloading the truck.
I went to unlock the salon, letting them set the boxes in my office.
"Thank you guys so much, I promise this won't happen again."
"Whatever." They mumbled leaving.
I sighed, sitting down. Looking around the shop I've been dreading to have since I was fifteen.
Fifteen is when I decided to become a nail technician. I was so into nails, designing and colors.
When I graduated from high school, I went to Tuskegee University and majored as a nail tech. I got my bachelors degree and couldn't be any happier. I saved money throughout high school, and now I have my own shop.
I managed to get a job, saved every paycheck for this shop. My shop.
No one helped me, not even my parents, nor my brother. Nobody.
The door rang, someone had walked in.
"Hey girl." Kirah said in a worried tone.
I cut my eyes at her, "Hey girl? Did you know as soon as I pulled up they were about to leave? We would've had no polish today!"
I know I might be exaggerating, but I wasn't about to have bad reviews about having no nail polish in my shop.
"I'm sorry, I got a call from them at like 8 last night." She sighed before continuing. "I was going to call you but Marno had took me out for dinner last night then things got carried away. Before I went to sleep I texted you just then remembering."
"Don't let it happen again Kirah. This shop is my income, don't fuck with it."
"I'm sorry aight?" Her face filled with sorrow.
"It's fine, now give me a hug." I opened my arms.
She walked over to me, wrapping her arms around me. I sighed, as we pulled away.
"Are you going to unpack this stuff?"
"I will." She nodded. "Just let me go put my stuff away."
She walked off towards the back where the lockers were.
I went over to my station, cleaning up a bit. My phone buzzed in my purse, pulling it out rolling my eyes at the message.
From: Darrel
I called you last night why no answer? Call me back so we can talk.I thought about responding to his stupid ass but didn't.
I got up turning the OPEN sign on. I sat back down, fixing my station up.
"Can I put some music on?" Kirah's voice yelled out to me.
"Gon' ahead." I looked down at my freshly done nails.
Triggered by Jhene Aiko.
The music filled throughout the building. My first customer came in, and I hooked her up with some Acrylic nails.
Looking at the done nails, I smiled.
"Tami you'a real one." She looked down at her nails.
"Thank you boo."
Kirah walked out, looking at me.
"What?" I noticed her annoyed face.
Kirah always had this annoyed face which I've learned to remember.
"Reign gonna be late, her babysitter didn't show up."
I looked over at my client. "Let me get you outta here while I handle something." I gave her a small smile.
After her leaving I looked at Kirah.
"Tell her to take her time, I know she's having a tough time with her family right now." She nodded.
"Poor girl. She's always late though, Tami."
"I know Kirah." I huffed.
She walked away, while I looked out the big windows.
Reign was a sweet girl. She has two kids and she's only 20. She was sadly, a teenage mother. But, she really went through it with her mom not excepting the kids, so she had to stay at her baby fathers house. I gladly, excepted her in when she was 19.
She's a really good nail artist, but bad at being responsible.
My shop isn't what it seems. Everyone thinks everybody gets along with one another but really shit happens behind closed doors.
One thing though, nobody can compare to Marbel's.

First Chapter....thoughts?
It might seem boring AF, but trust me things will start to heat up. Things will get straight to the point in like the next chapters!
