The Night Before

Chapter 2: The Month Before

-1 year later- 

It was a month before the wedding Aspen was in her apartment doing her homework it was the last month of college. There was a knock on her door she went to answer it "Can I help you gentlemen?' she said

"Are you Ms Aspen Marie Miller Sgt Mason Carter;s fiancee.." the guy said

"Yes that's me.." she said as she felt a lump forming in her throat. 

"We regret to inform you Ms Miller that your fiancee is not returning home. His plane was shot down two days ago. We have already been in contact with his family you were listed as well." the guy said

She started to shake and felt numb as she shut the door completely ignoring the fact that he was still talking to her. She reached for her cellphone she called Bucky through face time he was doing his homework "Hey doll..Aspen what's wrong.. Aspen speak.." he said as he started to yell. 

"M-m-m...Mason..." she whispered 

"Mason..okay that's a start.. what about.."I'm on my way baby you don't have to answer that." he said 

"Guys cars now ... Aspen needs us calls the girls." he said as they all went running. 

"What's going on Buck" Natalie said as they all got outside. 

"Aspen needs us.. Mason isn't coming home.. I could tell my look on her face. .that she's in shock.." he said as they all got in the cars. They all made it to her place that Mason had paid up a full year he was going to come home in less than a month for Bucky's wedding and their anniversary. 

Bucky used his key to get in and found her sitting on the couch she hadn't moved. They all sat down beside her Bucky wrapped an arm around "Shh we are here baby.." he said 

The next morning Bucky had slept in between Natalie and Aspen in Aspen's bed when he woke up Aspen was gone. He quietly got up and he found her outside on her balcony  on the phone. "Uh yean I had a um a wedding dress fitting appointment Im gonna have to cancel that.." she said as she wiped tears. 

Bucky shook his head "Why Mason..why couldn't you just gone to college with us." he whispered to himself. 

"It's fine I understand" Aspen said then she hung up. 

"I didn't mean to wake you up.." she said

"Aspen you don't need to do this right now" he said when he saw list of numbers. 

"yes I do..I guess I'm not gonna get my dream wedding." she said 

"Aspen you still have time to find someone else you are beautiful. Let the girls take care of this and you grieve and call his parents to see if you can help with that. Aspen look at me we are all here let us take care of you and you take the time you need. You did this when your lost your brother. You do things to take your mind off of everything else cause you don't want to deal with it. " Bucky said 

She looked down 

"Aspen baby what's wrong.." he whispered 

She swallowed hard "I never got to have sex with Mason. I wanted to wait till we got married cause I was scared of getting pregnant." she said 

"You and Mason never.. all this time." he said 

She shook her head yes. "I want to be alone you all are more than welcome to stay but I just want to be alone.. " she said as she went inside and ask if the girls could cancel everything else. She slammed the door to her bedroom Natalie came out to Bucky "What happened.."  Natalie said 

"I found her out here cancelling her dress fitting. I told her to let you all handle it cause this is what she did when she lost Landon she focuses on something else so she doesn't deal with it. She started to go on about how she wasn't going to get her dream wedding. But I could tell something else was bothering her. She and Mason weren't having sex she was so scared of getting pregnant that she asked him if they could wait till they got married." Bucky said as the rest of them came out. 

They stayed the rest of the weekend she drove down for the funeral that they attended with her and they all said their goodbyes. That weekend that had one last dress fitting Natalie's bachelorette party and the boys had Bucky's bachelor' party.
