The three of us stand idly for a few beats and then run to the cottage, just barely stopping ourselves from barling the two over.
"Well, that took you long enough. Wow were you slow to crack Indi." Thanks, Grandma. The goddess beside her practically shoves us all inside a modest hut; one with a much smaller outside than inside. She was shorter, and a little on the plump side with an oval face and olive skin tone covered in freckles. All topped off with tight spirally black shiny hair. The glow in her skin was dim but noticeable and when I looked into her eyes I almost screamed.
They were pitch black, like my tattoo. Looking at them made my left arm and behind my right ear burn again.
"Relax dear, the eyes just mean I'm a witch. I'm not going to cook you guys or anything though. Haven't the time and value Chinese food as my main source of calories."
Honestly, at this point hearing the term 'I'm just a witch' said so casually shouldn't freak me out as much as it does right now. So I take another shot at acting. "So... are the other witches mad at Swiffer and Roombas for taking over regular riding brooms?"
"INDI my gosh!" Warrison, Adam and grams squeak around me. The witch just stared and smiled. Her face lit with some sort of magic.
"The name is Isabella Aurora Swan. Yeah, my parents thought the whole Twilight thing would be funny. Call me Rori, because if you call me 'bells', 'Bella' or anything else related to that book series I will Hansel and Gretel you." She finishes by looking me dead in the eye. Point taken.
Rori then busies herself with my grandma and tea preparations. Ushering the boys and I to sit in a cozy old fashioned living room of hers that smelled of heavily burned incense.
Here we all sat, dead quiet and unsure of what to do. I had been given a knife when in the car and had it in my boot but I didn't want to pull it out in front of my grandma and an innocent lady if I'm wrong.
The three of us barely fit on the loveseat she used for a couch, and they've been gone for a suspiciously long time. I had just been about to go and check in on them when Warrison and Adam pull on each of my arms, putting me back in their center ground. In perfect timing with the two women (or, rather, one woman, one witch, eery ratio) entering the room with a large tray in each of their hands. When I looked back from them to the barely filled and cramped room, I noticed more space was added and a couch across from us, identical, only separated by a large coffee table.
So witches are real. I wonder if they can help magically catch up on assignments and homework to help a hellspawn out. She smiles at me as if reading my thoughts. Then lightly shakes her head.
"We'll see. There are other things we are here to talk about right now." Why must these people act as if I'm some sort of save all? Again, she smiles, "Well, one way or another, you and only you, really are."
Well, this is head lightening. I just sit there nodding numbly, probably going to have to hear another lecture anyways. The boys beside me sit completely still, barely breathing.
"Yes, you are, but only briefly," Rori says in a maternal tone as if hearing the whole of my thoughts without a single problem. Could she the fuck not? I look around for back up, but grams is just smirking out the window, while Warrison and Adam look as if they are trying to leave their minds empty.
"Well, okay there Sabrina the adult witch, please do tell all." Exits my mouth without a single thought. She doesn't seem offended in the slightest, just smiles and continues. The boys annoyingly attempt to contain a flinch at my sarcasm.
