"Everyones story beings with some sort of tragedy."
The lions always watched over her.One was as ragged and scarred as the wild coyotes that survived in the desert, and the other was a young and hopeful golden cub.
Oddly enough, no one else saw them, it was only her.
When she had asked others if they saw the lions, she always got weird looks before the other persons asked if she was playing a game, or even if she was making a joke.
"Why can't anyone else see you?" the young girl asked the lions. She scratched the cub's ears as she lay in the girl's lap, the scarred lion lay on her bed.
The cub purred as she enjoyed the hand scratching her ears, and the older lion rolled his eyes, "People can't see what they don't believe," the lion answered her.
"But why?" the six year old human girl asked, her curiosity never ending.
"Soooooooooo, nicee," the cub mumbled, closing her eyes in content as the girl smiled.
The lion sighed at his counterpart, "Humans have come to depend on their science, so if something like us appears, who knows what they'll do. It's safer this way."
"Science sucks," The girl pouted.
"Indeed," the lion nodded, a smirk on his furry face as the girl agreed with him.
"It doesn't suck," the cub piped up finally, her goodness almost flowing from her fur, "It's just different. And because of it, humans know a lot more about how the world works."
The older lion growled as the girl nodded in agreement with the cub, "That makes sense, I think..."
"Careful there," the cub teased the lion good naturally, "You're letting your bad side out."
The lion growled at the cub and went to lunge at her, before he caught the look on the girl's face. The girl was wide eyed and he could see the start of slight fear in her warm brown orbs.
The lion settled down with a grumble as the cub smiled innocently.
"Leona!"
The young girl looked up at the sound of her name being called by her mother, "Dinner's ready!"
"Coming!" the girl called back as the cub gracefully jumped off her lap.
"Have fun," the cub grinned up to her human.
Leona smiled back, "I will try."
Least to say, that dinner was the worst dinner they ever had, the topic of the lions only Leona saw came up again and the young girl's father finally snapping.
The youthful look in the young girl's eyes died that day.
What did you think?
Hope you enjoyed!
