"I don't want you go."
"I know," he paused a beat, tears threatening to spill from his crystal blue eyes. "but I haven't got a choice."
"We all have a choice." he heard her whisper, voice no louder than the rustle of a book page. "But you decided not to choose us."
Her words hurt him, truly they did. For so long, they both had attempted to stoke the dying flames of their relationship but it had reached a point where there was nothing left to salvage. For the male, it was time to move on.
"That's not fair." he protested in his defence. He's never wanted things to end this way but it was inevitable, they had been on a one way collision course of self-destruction, someone had needed to save them both. Even if that meant no longer being coupled. "I don't like this either."
"Then don't go. Stay." her pleading tone weakened his crumbling will. How easy it would be to fall into her arms, into their bed once more but prolonging the break up would only be that more painful when it did eventually occur. "If you love me, you'll stay."
The silence of the room was deafening, he couldn't even muster the energy to lie to her one last time.
"We're just too different now, I'm sorry." he eventually admitted, the words cut into her already bleeding heart.
There it was, the ugly truth that seeped from his lips and polluted the air around them.
"Get out." was all she could mutter in response. Anything else would just be another plea.
Unlocking the front door, Sebastian knew it was time to say his final goodbye. "I mean it, I really am sorry."
"Just get out." she didn't dare raise her gaze to meet his broken gaze, for if she did, she would surely break down and lose the little dignity she had managed to retain throughout the entirety of their break up.
Without another word shared between them, he was gone, leaving her with nothing but the memory of a ghost and the faint scent of his lingering aftershave.
As he walked away from the one he had once loved, the actor cursed the day for being one of sun and not rain. How dare the rest of the world carry on with it's happiness, when he was completely miserable.
The further his feet carried him, the more he felt completely overwhelmed with his life-changing decision. The tears that had threatened to fall now spilled down his face in absolute abandon.
Sobs wracked his chest as he pulled out his phone and through blurred vision, dialled a set of numbers.
"Pick up, pick up." he muttered to himself, desperate for a voice, as opposed to a dial tone.
"Hello?" your voice sounded through the receiver. When you didn't hear a reply, you checked your phone screen. Nope, the call was definitely still connected. "Seb, you there?" you asked, worry evident in your tone. "Seb?"
"(Y/N)," he wept bitterly, no longer able to contain his sadness. "I think I've made a mistake."
