Kayla's POV
I still can't believe that I got a jersey like an actual jersey. Okay I'm seriously dreaming right now, there's no freaking way that Jill had time to make these jerseys for us within 15 minutes and know are sizes, like what?
Sam pokes me, "what?" I hiss at her. The blonde just chuckled softly pointing to Alex who was standing in the isle near our seats. "Oh hi." I nervously whisper out.
The dark haired girl smiles and shakes her head, "I see that you two took Coaches offer." I nod quickly, "just between us, Jill has actually been looking at you guys since you high school team won nationals. Usually she looks At seniors, but you two blew her away. Hence the jerseys. What rank were you on the high school national level?" She looks to both of us.
"3." "18." Sami and I mumble at the same time, "wait..." "Jill pulled some strings making sure you too got into the program here. That way she had both of in the same place and could offer you this opportunity. I'm glad you guys took it." Alex smiles brightly. "Jill's been watching and waiting, but technically you can't be on the National Team until you are 16. But you guys are both automatically on the U20 team, and we just happen to have two of them traveling with us today."
I look to Sam quickly, Alex just said what I think she said right? We're on the USWNT U20 team. This isn't a dream, this isn't a joke! Holy shit!
This has been a huge dream of mine since I was little, to start off on the U17 team maybe, then head to the U20 team, get noticed by the coach, and finally play for the USWNT. That's always been my goal. This was something I've wanted since I was 4 years old when I stepped foot into the pitch for the very first time. Then when I met Sami, I knew that I wanted her along side me the whole way until that goal was set. That I wanted her to be my partner in crime for something like this.
I can't believe that this is actually happening, I skipped over the U17 team idea, and I'm here right now, on the U20 platform, talking to my idol. This is the life. I'm so proud of how far I've come, from this little girl who'd trip over her own two feet, to this confident person, in the way she plays.
Sitting here looking at all of this around me is way to much to handle. I mean going to Beastly College for this program was huge thing within itself. But this is a whole nother level.
After what felt like a while, I hear voices. They seem miles away. "Is she going to be okay?" "Yeah, she should be fine. I think." "She looks like she's about to pass out." "Yeah, she sometimes forgets to breath when she goes into an anxiety attack, so she gets light headed, and doesn't notice." "Can you get her out of it?" "Yep. One minute please." All of a sudden I feel a searing pain. And I'm back in the real world. And I'm hyperventilating, great.
"Sorry that I had to slap you, you weren't hearing me. Breathe in... breathe out... breathe in... breathe out." Sami says softly, after a minute of that I fell my breathing go back to normal and my heart rate slow down. "You good kid?" I hear someone ask, I look up, and it's Tobin Freaking Heath! "Yeah I'm good." I say softly.
"You gave us quite the scare there. I'm Tobin, you're Kayla, number 1." The midfielder smiles, I nod to her, "You we're starting to look a little blue there kid." I blush looking down at my lap, "Sorry, sometimes huge things, things that are unbelievable, I just stop, and have an anxiety attack. It's sorta stupid, and it can come from fear, or even over excitement." I explain, "and part of my all time dream and goal was to get here where I am now, and it's sorta unbelievable that I'm here right now." "Believe it kid. Jill was gushing about these two freshman girls when she came back from the National game for your high school, she kept saying that these two didn't need to see where each other were, it was like they could feel each other on the field, and make amazing passes without even being able to see their teammate."
Sam chuckles softly, "that's because we've been playing soccer together since we were five, we've learned how each other play and our runs, and get into the same mindset during the game. We have the same soccer brain is what our parents like to call it." I look towards Sami and shake my head laughing a bit. "10 years, we've been playing together, and we've learned how to compliment our strengths and weaknesses, my strengths, are her weaknesses, her strengths are my weaknesses. We keep each other balanced, so, yes we've always been on the same mindset."
"That's pretty cool." A new voice said, I look to my left and there was Christen Press and Carli Lloyd. Holy shit! "Kid, don't forget to breathe." Tobin chuckles softly.
"Everyone settle down. Back to your seats, I have some travelers with us today, you may have sort of met them. They come from the Beastly College summer program. This is Kayla Evans, and Samantha Daniels." Jill points to us, "please stand up, ladies, please introduce yourselves."
Sam and I stand up looking at the everyone I the bus. "I'm Kayla." "I'm Sam." We both say at the same time, we look towards each other laughing slightly.
"Now everyone else please. These girls will be traveling with the U20 team. They have earned a spot with the U20 team." Jill completes, I still cannot believe that Sam and I are part of the USWNT U20 team. That's kinda big for us.
"Hope Solo." "Alyssa Naeher." "Ashlyn Harris." "Julie Johnston." "Kelley O'Hara." "Lori Chalupny." "Meghan Klingenberg." "Christie Rampone." "Whitney Engen." "Ali Krieger." "Becky Sauerbrunn." "Hey Kid, I'm Tobin Heath." "Heather O'Reilly." "Shannon Boxx." "Lauren Holiday." "Megan Rapinoe." "Morgan Brian." "Carli Lloyd." "Amy Rodriguez." "Christen Press." "Sydney Leroux." "You know me. But anyway, Alex Morgan." "Abby Wambach."
"Now that everyone is acquainted. Let's focus on getting ready for our game." Jill Ellis says as everyone sits back down in there seats.
As Sami and I do the same, Tobin and Alex sit down in front of us.
That fact that this is happening is crazy. Soon the bus started to move and we were off. Going in the direction of the friendly the team had. Alex turned in her seat, to look at us, "oh yeah since you guys are our visitors on the ride and at the hotel you guys get your own room. We should be there by noon. We get to settle in, then grab some lunch. Then we get back on the bus to head to the stadium to start getting ready. Then after the game, you know normal drill stuff."
I nod after the explanation. Oh my god this is seriously happening.
"Just a random question here. Where do you think we're going to sit?" Sam asks Alex. The older woman smiled before answering, "the U20 Coach is meeting us there to meet you two. There is 3 open seats right behind the bench that belong to him and you." Holy shit. We get to sit exactly behind the bench, "That's not all. You get to warm up with us, before heading to your seats before the game." Tobin finishes as she turns around. "Now I'd get comfortable, this could be a long ride."
