Chapter Nineteen

Mickey's room was quiet except for the steady beep, beep, beep of the monitor. I looked at her; her face already had a much healthier glow to it. I pulled the note out of my pocket and placed it in hers. It was simple, short and to the point:

I love you.

Love, Daddy.

I looked at her and sighed, knowing she was going to be okay, thank you, God. I sent a short prayer to my new Daddy. He one I was relying on to get me through the time ahead of me, possibly the rest of my life. I leaned down and kissed my baby girl on her head, knowing it might be the last time. I breathed deeply inhaling her sweet smell as tears fell from my eyes to her hair. I almost stopped then, but there was a presence urging me to go. I knew I had to. So I stood, looking at her face one last, long, lingering time; and I walked away. Towards my future. The one I chose with my own free will. Because I wanted to follow God.
