The ambulance pulled up to the house for the second time this week. The sirens again were penetrating the silent night; but unlike last time Jeff had seen this ambulance the flashing lights weren't the only one that could be seen in the dark night. Every light in the house was on. The Father was standing at the door holding the little girl in his arms. She was still breathing. Her heart was still beating. But how long could it last? Jeff didn't want to think about it. The man had found his way. He was almost there, but there was one more step; and it was crucial. Crucial for everyone. If Bobb would take this last step, the Enemy would go away. If Bobb could take this last step, those people could go back to their families. All those people that had helped Bobb reach this point. Helped him find his way. They could all go back with one more victory in God's name. Bobb had to do this though.
"Can you do it?" the roles were reversed this time. This time it was the tall man with the graying hair asking Jeff. But he wasn't mocking. He was sympathetic.
The woman looked at him this time, the woman with the blonde hair, "We all know it'll be hard. After everything he did. You don't have to do this."
Jeff's eyes glistened, but it wasn't' him that responded to the woman. It was the lady from the MegaPort, "Yes, he does." She said softly, staring at Jeff's tiny face, knowing that this was the biggest challenge yet. They all had faced their murderer. The man that had killed them. But they hadn't faced a man who had taken the most precious thing in their lives from them. They hadn't faced the man they had watched kill their mother, their only family. They didn't have to look him in the eye, knowing he could see her in themselves and yet love this man anyway.
"Yes." Jeff said, knowing all these things were true, "I do." Jeff was afraid. This man may have repented, but he still scared Jeff. Jeff knew he could not go back at this point, it was a crucial moment in this man's new relationship and it was essential for this man that it went right, "I have to." He whispered as the others faded into the shadows and he started after the ambulance that was fading into the distance.
