Err Err Err Err Err

I slammed my hand down on the screeching alarm clock to silence it.

5:30 AM

I was in no mood to go to school this morning, but its Friday so I'll manage. I slid out of bed and made my way to the bathroom. Squinting at the bright light as I looked in the mirror. I wasn't the prettiest person in the morning. My kinky hair was no longer in its bun and there was a little dribble of drool creeping out the corner on my mouth, I sighed and continued on my morning routine. I decided to wear something simple, my floral pants, plain peach colored v-neck and peach colored converse would do just fine. I wet my hair and place my floral headband on my head. I applied the finishing touches of lip gloss and made my way down the stairs, grabbing my phone, charger and earphones.

As I entered the kitchen, I eyed the clock. It read 6:20 AM, around the time my father wakes up and brews his coffee. I made my way into the freezer and grabbed myself a toaster strudel, popped it in the toaster and waited. As I suspected, my father made his way down the steps and into the kitchen. Wearing his red velvet robe, matching house shoes and glasses. We made no eye contact, or conversation, we never do. Ever since my mom passed away, we haven't been as close. Its not like we have a problem with each other, its just difficult to even start a conversation with him.

We shared an awkward silence. The only sound was the ticking of my mothers favorite clock and the brewing of my fathers coffee. I smiled at the thought of my mother, thinking back to when we were all happy, close. My thoughts were then interrupted by the ding of the toaster.

I removed my toaster strudel and spread on the icing, as my father made his way up the stairs with his coffee. After taking the last bite of the strudel, I sliced up a few apples and put them in a baggy along with some Cheerios and a bottle of Sunny D, leaving them in the refrigerator for my sister when she wakes up for school.

I always make her a small breakfast, mom always said it's the most important meal of the day.

I read the clock, 6:55AM. I slipped my plain all white hoodie over my head, applied some more lip gloss on my lips and then placed it in my purse as I walked out the door, locking it behind me. Kitai sat at his usual spot on the steps of my porch. He wasn't aware of my presence due to his earphones being shoved deep into his ear canals and his eyes glued to the screen of his phone. I tapped his shoulder, making my presence aware. He glanced at me, smiled and stood.

"Hey Baby."

I smiled "Hey Tai."

He put the still playing music on pause and wrapped his earphones around his phone, shoving it deep into the pocket of his hoodie. We began walking to the bus stop at the end of the street, holding hands and talking.

We stood patiently at the bus stop along with the other students attending Riverwood High. Some were consumed in their own music while others passed a small joint around until the bus pulled up.  I myself stood close to Kitai watching the sunrise.

It wasn't long before the bus pulled up and all of the students boarded. Kitai and I sat in the back, both now listening to music. I took this very moment to catch a little shut eye.
