{Song: Paradise City by Guns N' Roses}

Oil's P.O.V.

He nodded and watched as I played a song from memorization. "Why do you play in traditional? That's retarded. Matched is better." he judged in a cocky tone. I looked down at my hands. "I play traditional 'cause I was taught to. You know, lead snare is better than what you probably did and we play traditional. Screw off." He scoffed.

"I was lead tenors freshman year. Please," He retaliated. "I'm so happy for you but I've been lead snare all high school. Fresh man year too. scoot along Junior." I said shooing the menace away.

"Naw, I'm good. Play on." He said standing his ground. By the way he was shifting his weight I could tell he was Intimidated.

~~~
"No, your suppose to, god I'm done!" he exclaimed. "I NEVER ASKED YOU!" then Ruyn aka Mr.Louie walked in. He was my former percussion instructor since 5th grade. "Calm down! It's curfew. Get to your cabins. I want to talk to you first Oli."
Ashton looked at me and smirked. He walked out. "Hey Ryun." I said as soon as he was gone. "Hey Oli! How's everything been? Still practicing?" He always bugged my to practice. "Yea, why are you here. NOT TO BE RUDE!" be chuckled. "I'm helping direct. So is Mrs.Hire and Mr.Hadgis."
"Really?" I asked. Mrs. hire was my middle school band director and mr.hadgis was my high school band director.
"Yea, marching starts tomorrow. Snare?" he asked me. I laughed, "Yea, for sure. That one kid thinks I suck." I explained. "Well then, your gonna make it and I'm going to give you a solo in the first song. We can do 'Lady Madonna'." lady Madonna was my favorite song in high school.
Good ole' Wadsworth High School.
I woke up to mike once again. Whispering in my ear, "Wake up Oli. Auditions today."
I groaned. I don't want to get up at all today. But slowly I rolled out of my bed. I looked at mike and he was already showered and clothed. I looked down at my spandex and crop top. Wow, I thought to myself. I look like a peasant.
Mike frowned. "I'll walk you to the showers." I stood and got a draw string bag and filled it with shampoo and conditioner and clothes. Hygiene stuff too.
"Lets go." We walked out of the cabin into the dim light of dusk. It was so early but people were walking around In good clothes with wet hair and others like me, sleep wear, tired eyes, and morning breath.
I followed mike to a tiled shower house with a 'womens' label. "Here ya go." I will be in the brass hall. Come find me when your done." And with that he was off.
~~~

I dressed myself in ripped skinny jeans and a dark grey Guns n' Roses T-Shirt. I also threw on my black TOMS. My hair was wet so I just threw it into a bun. A quite messy one at that.

I walked out of he shower house into the light again but this time it was bright. Lots of vitamin C For me today I guess.

I found and walked to the brass hall like Mike told me to. We found each other and walked to the makeshift stadium.

We go there and were told to stand in the line of the instrument we wanted to do. Mike we t off the the trumpets and saw Calum. He squeaked and they talked.

I wandered off into the percussion section. I looked at all the people around me. Girls and Boys everywhere laughing and talking about random things like how this all reminded them of band camp or how there confident about their choice. Or the opposite. I found a group talking about snare and slipped into the mix of people.

"Is this snare?" I asked a tall body. Ashton turned around and smiled. "Yeh, it is. Go find the tenors." I widened my eyes. "I believe that is for you. Wait, no shit, cymbals was calling for you." I called back. Nobody likes cymbals. He rolled his eyes. "Roll your eyes one more time and they will roll out of your head." He scoffed and turned away.

"Don't worry. He's always a Douche to newbies." I turned to see a tall girl with dark brown hair. "I'm Victoria Uhase and I play flute." She opened her arms for a hug. I laughed and hugged her. "I'm Oli Jackson. I'm a percussionist." She laughed, "Good luck with Mr.Louie. He's a toughie."

"He was the Instructor In my high school band. We're homies." I said laughing. "Oh ok. Well that's really good. He knows you. I gotta go. Bye!" she said waking away.

I turned back to the line and patiently waited for my turn to Try out.

~~~
We all tried out and they announced who made what and now they were announcing percussion.
There was 22 of us. 5 on bass, 7 on cymbals 4 tenors and 6 snare players. I WAS ONE OF THE SNARE! But that was expected so ya know...
"Ok section leader for bass is, Sam Eggelton! leader for cymbals is, Ashley Rodgers! Leader for tenors is, Matthias Gruich! Leader in snare is," I looked at Ashton. "This was a 5 point difference. Oli Jackson!" Mr.Hadgis exclaimed.
I grinned and look at Ashton who had a sour look on his face.
"Do you guys want me to tell you chair place placements?" mr.hadgis asked us all. And roar of yeses was said and he did.
Turns out Ashton was 2nd chair and this guy David was 3rd. 4th was some guy with blonde hair I didn't know his name. There was also another curly blonde boy and a dark short haired boy.
This day has been great. "Ok, come get sized for your harnesses and uniforms. We're the featured marching band for the Super Bowl In the U.S. in the fall so you all need to be ready." Ryun yelled to all percussionist.
Wow, the Super Bowl. What have I gotten my self into?
Who was surprised? btw Sam Eggelton and Matthias Gruich and Ashley Rodgers AND David Seltzer are all real people. David is actually lead snare at my high school.
